Assembly backs South Punjab, Bahawalpur provinces

LAHORE, May 9: In a rare show of unanimity, the treasury and the opposition in the Punjab Assembly jointly adopted on Wednesday two resolutions calling for restoring the Bahawalpur province and carving out a new Janoobi (south) Punjab province comprising the Seraiki belt, but excluding the three districts of the former princely state.

Govt raising money to ease power crisis

ISLAMABAD, May 9: With the electricity shortfall touching about 7,000MW on Wednesday, the government decided to immediately release Rs23 billion to power companies and fuel suppliers and to raise another Rs70 billion through term finance certificates (TFCs) within a week in an effort to ease power crisis.

Two killed

QUETTA, May 9: Two persons, including a Hindu beggar, were killed here on Wednesday.
According to police, the body of a man, identified as Nawaz, was found in Killi Shahnawaz area. He was a resident of tehsil Samandri in Faisalabad. Sources said the body bore marks of multiple knife wounds. The motive behind the killing was not known. In another incident, gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on a man in Killi Faizabad area. The victim, identified as Ram Chand, died on the spot. Police said he was a beggar and resident of Sanghar in Sindh...
