Erdogan visit brings respite for Gilani
----------------------------------------------------------------
By Khawar Ghumman
ISLAMABAD, May 21: Beleaguered as he is, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani could not have asked for more than receiving appreciation from his Turkish counterpart for thriving democracy in Pakistan and undivided attention from a joint sitting of the two houses of parliament during his speech. The visiting Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, had been invited to address the joint sitting on Monday.
In current circumstances when there were increasing calls by opposition parties for his resignation following his conviction by the Supreme Court in contempt case, the Turkish prime minister's visit is virtually turning out to be a great blessing for Mr Gilani. And he really made use of this opportunity. Well before the arrival of the Turkish prime minister, Mr Gilani came to the house and spent quality time with his party colleagues during which he was photographed with every second PPP lawmaker present on the occasion...

By Saleem Shahid
QUETTA, May 21: Annoyed by slow progress in the recovery of missing persons, the Supreme Court has ordered the secretaries of defence and interior as well as principal secretaries to the prime minister and governor and chief minister of Balochistan to appear before it in person on Tuesday to explain why the court's orders had not been complied with so far. "The missing persons' problem is a burning issue and main cause for the deteriorating law and order situation in Balochistan. There must be a political solution to the problem because without it the situation could not be brought under control," Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry observed.
A three-judge bench comprising the chief justice, Justice Khilji Arif Hussian and Justice Jawad S. Khwaja is hearing a petition on the law and order situation and human rights violations in Balochistan at the Quetta registry of Supreme Court...
