Bill seeking ISI's accountability submitted to Senate

ISLAMABAD, July 8: The presidential camp plans a serious effort to tame the country's premier intelligence agency — Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) — through parliamentary legislation and make it fully 'answerable' to parliament and the government.

A 19-page draft of a bill was submitted in the Senate by president's spokesman Senator Farhatullah Babar a few days ago and may be taken up during the session commencing on Monday...

Six killed; kidnapped doctor freed

QUETTA, July 8: Six armed men, allegedly involved in kidnapping for ransom incidents, were killed in an encounter with the Frontier Corps personnel in Mastung district on Saturday night, officials said.

A Frontier Corps official told Dawn that FC personnel raided hideouts of suspected criminals in Kabo and Sapalanji areas of Mastung district and Pir Ghaib mountainous area of Bolan district...

DPC 'long march' on way to Islamabad

LAHORE, July 8: The Difa-i-Pakistan Council finally launched from Lahore its 'long march' on Islamabad on Sunday in protest against reopening of Nato supply routes.

The DPC had earlier announced that the march would take off from Karachi on May 27 after the government started moving towards reopening the supply routes under increasing US pressure. The council postponed the march after the government kept quiet for some time on the issue...

Seven Nato troops among dozens killed in Afghanistan

KABUL, July 8: Six Nato soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb in eastern Afghanistan on Sunday, after a militant attack in the south killed one foreign soldier, coalition statements said.

The deaths took the number of Nato troops killed in the last two days to eight, one of the deadliest periods of violence for foreign troops in weeks...

Afghan peace depends on regional countries, says Khar

Egyptian president annuls parliament's dissolution

CAIRO, July 8: Egypt's new President Mohamed Morsi issued a decree on Sunday annulling the Supreme Court's dissolution of the Islamist-dominated parliament, the official news agency reported.

"President Morsi has issued a presidential decree annulling the decision taken on June 15, 2012 to dissolve the people's assembly, and invites the chamber to convene again and to exercise its prerogatives," the MENA news agency said...
