| Rain in Punjab, KP and AJK turns weather pleasant Posted: <p> </p><p>According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), different parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir received rain in the past 24 hours.</p><p> </p><p>The PMD predicted scattered rains in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, eastern Balochistan and Kashmir. Meanwhile, heavy rain was also expected in some areas.<br /> </p> |
| Zardari accepts Zulfiqar Mirzas resignation Posted: <p> </p><p>According to sources, Chief Minister Sindh and Pakistan Paople’s Party Sindh president, Syed Qaim Ali Shah contacted President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani after Zulfiqa Mirza’s press conference. The chief minister sought their recommendation on Mirza’s resignation.</p><p> </p><p>The sources said that notification of acceptance of Zulfiqar Mirza’s resignation will be issued any time today.<br /> </p> |
| Lahore: National U-20 rugby team training camp concludes Posted: <p> </p><p>At least 50 players attended the camp at the Defence Stadium, Lahore. The under-20 rugby team will leave for Uzbekistan on September 3 to participate in 4-nation tournament. </p><p> </p><p>Pakistan rugby team will face hosts Uzbekistan in their opening match of 4-nation tournament. Uzbekistan, Kirghizstan and Singapore ate also taking part in the tournament.<br /> </p> |
| Irene charges into New England Posted: <p> </p><p>Hurricane Irene left behind a stunned US East Coast. At least 20 people died and severe flooding was widespread. About four million homes and businesses were without electricity.</p><p> </p><p>As waves continued to pound the shores east and north of America s biggest city, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg lifted the evacuation order for 370,000 people in low-lying areas. Irene sent seawater surging into lower Manhattan s streets, but the city appeared to escape the worst fears of urban disaster vast power outages, hurricane-shattered skyscraper windows and severe flooding.</p><p> </p><p>There was no immediate indication when New York might start its subways again, but the New York Stock Exchange was ready to open for trading Monday.</p><p> </p><p>New England residents were feeling the brunt of the diminished but still-dangerous storm, which will cause flooding and winds that could topple many towering trees anchored in soil already saturated by earlier heavy rains. The storm was expected to move over eastern Canada by Sunday night.</p><p> </p><p>In Massachusetts, the National Guard had to help people evacuate. The ski resort town of Wilmington, Vermont, was flooded, but nobody could get to it because both state roads leading there were underwater.</p><p> </p><p>Forecasters said Irene, while diminished in strength, was still massive and powerful, with powerful winds extending hundreds of miles (kilometers) from the center. | Lahore: Number of dengue patients reaches 1100 Posted: <p> </p><p>According to sources, 20 recruits of of Rescue Training Centre were reported suffering from dengue fever. The administration has closed the centre for four day after the spread of epidemic in the centre.</p><p> </p><p>According to Punjab Health Department, the number of dengue patients has reached 1100 in the province out of which 907 cases were reported in Lahore alone and 33 new cases of dengue were reported in Lahore in the past 24 hours.<br /> </p> |
| ANP ends boycott of Sindh government Posted: <p> </p><p>The advisory committee meeting of the Awami National Party was held at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister’s house under the chairmanship of its central president Asfandyar Wali.</p><p> </p><p>The advisory committee announced to end boycott of Sindh government and also favoured targeted operation in Karachi.</p><p> </p><p>The committee also reiterated its stance on commissionerate system and advised ANP Sindh to end boycott of provincial government.<br /> </p> |
| Search operation continues for Shahbaz Taseer recovery Posted: <p> </p><p>Police was continuously conducting raids in various areas of Lahore for the recovery of Shahabz Taseer but could not get an obvious success.</p><p> </p><p>Shahbaz Taseer, son of former Punjab governor Salman Taseer’s was abducted on Friday from the Gulberg area of Lahore by unidentified gunmen</p><p> </p><p>According to police, the abducted Shahbaz has not been taken out of Lahore city. The police was making sketches of the kidnappers with the help of eye-witnesses to reach the culprits.</p><p> </p><p>Meanwhile, lawyers have announced to stage a protest rally in front of Lahore High court today. <br /> </p> |
| Zardari convenes PPP Sindh minister meeting Posted: <p> </p><p>President Asif Ali Zardari, while taking notice of Zulfikar Mirza’s statement, has convened PPP Sindh minister meeting on Monday.</p><p> </p><p>The meeting will also discuss the situation arising after the press conference of former provincial senior minister, Dr Zulfiqar Mirza. Party policy and other matters will also be discussed during the meeting.</p><p> </p><p>Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Federal Minister Syed Khursheed Shah will also attend the meeting.<br /> </p> |

| Scotland win homeless football world cup Posted: <p>A team of Scottish homeless footballers lifted the homeless football world cup trophy in Paris. The founders brought together 64 soccer teams from around the world as a means to promote social inclusion of homeless and marginalised people, they say, to try and show them that anything is possible in sport.</p><p> </p><p>In a final of intense and pacy football, the Scotland side were always one step ahead, finally winning 4 - 3.</p><p> </p><p>At the bottom of the Eiffel tower and in the presence of former World Cup champions Emmanuel Petit and Lilian Thuram, the Scots were awarded the winners trophy.</p><p> </p><p>"Ecstatic, so ecstatic, it makes homelessness worth it so it s an absolutely fantastic experience for me and the boys. They ve worked so so hard and I think they deserve everything they got. | Mirzas statement to trigger violence in Sindh, says MQM Posted: <p> </p><p>The Coordination Committee meetings of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were held in Karachi and London to discuss the situation arising after the press conference of former provincial senior minister, Dr Zulfiqar Mirza.</p><p> </p><p>In the joint statement after the meetings Coordination Committee sources said that Zulfiqar Mirza was himself involved in target killings in Karachi.</p><p> </p><p>The Coordination Committee has also asked Pakistan People’s Party to clears its position in this regard.</p><p> </p><p>The MQM condemned Zulfiqar Mirza’s allegations and said why kidnapping for ransom and ‘Bhatta Mafia’ activities started soon after his appointment as Sindh Interior Minister.</p><p> </p><p>The MQM also alleged that Mirza’s allegations would add fuel to the fire and trigger violence in Karachi. The Coordination Committee said that Mirza was directly involved in target killing in Karachi.<br /> </p> |
| 28 dead in suicide attack in Iraq mosque Posted: <p> </p><p>A suicide bomber killed 28 people including a member of parliament and wounded 37 others at a Sunni mosque in western Baghdad on Sunday evening, an interior ministry official said</p><p> </p><p>"A suicide bomber entered Umm al-Qura mosque and blew himself up, killing 28 people and wounding 37," the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.</p><p> </p><p>Among the dead were Khaled al-Fahdawi, an MP from western Anbar province allied with the Sunni-backed Iraqiya bloc, he said. Elderly men and children were also among the casualties.</p><p> </p><p>The Umm al-Qura mosque, located in the Ghazaliyah neighbourhood, is the main headquarters of the Sunni Endowment, which is responsible for maintaining Sunni Muslim religious sites across Baghdad.</p><p> </p><p>The head of the Umm al-Qura mosque is Ahmed Abdulghafur al-Samarrai, who is reputed for his sermons against violent extremism.</p><p> </p><p>Sunday s attack came towards the end of the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, just days before the Eid festival that follows it.<br /> </p> |
| Islamabad: 3 kg heroin recovered from airport Posted: <p><br />As per detail, an alleged man Khalid was leaving from Islamabad to London by a flight No PK 785.</p><p> </p><p>Security men stopped him on suspicion basis and ultimately succeeded in recovering heavy quantity of heroin from him and arrested for further inquiry.</p><p> </p><p><br />According to security officials, accused had hidden narcotics in his shoes. Further investigation is underway.</p><p> </p> |
| Militants assail NATO base in Afghanistan Posted: <p><br />The bomber detonated his explosives outside the gate of a base in Qalat, the capital of Zabul province, said Salim Ahsas, the southern regional head of the Afghan police. The gunmen then started shoot toward the base. One was killed, another was captured and the third escaped, Ahsas said.</p><p><br />No one else was killed, he said. The Interior Ministry said in a statement that three civilians were wounded one woman and two children.<br />The attack occurred on the same day that a government health worker and his driver were killed in a roadside bomb blast in the north.</p><p><br />Dr. Ahmad Jawed Karim and his driver hit an explosive as they were driving in Takhar province s Dahana Sangi district, the health ministry said in a statement.</p><p><br />In the south meanwhile, two international service members were killed one in an insurgent attack and the other in a bomb blast.<br />NATO forces said the service members died Sunday but did not provide further detail.</p><p><br />NATO typically waits for national authorities to identify their dead and provide details of fatal incidents.</p><p><br />The latest military death makes 78 international troops killed so far this month.<br /> </p> |
| Posted: <p><br />Another 9 were also wounded, security officials said.</p><p><br />In the deadliest attack, militants in military uniforms killed three people in a car at a fake checkpoint they set up west of the restive ethnically mixed city of Baquba, an Iraqi army colonel in the provincial security command centre said.</p><p><br />In another incident in Diyala province, of which Baquba is the capital, two policemen were killed when gunmen opened fire at their checkpoint in Al-Saadiyah town.</p><p><br />And in the main northern city of Mosul, a magnetic "sticky bomb" attached to a police car in the centre of the city killed a policeman and wounded four others, local police said.</p><p><br />Meanwhile in Baghdad, three people were wounded by two separate roadside bomb attacks in Zafraniyah and Shuala districts, an interior ministry official said.</p><p><br />Two policemen were also wounded when explosives attached to a motorcycle blew up near a petrol station in town of Tuz Khurmatu, 175 kilometres (110 miles) north of the capital.</p><p><br />Sunday s violence comes after Al-Qaeda s front group in Iraq threatened a campaign of 100 attacks, starting in mid-August, to avenge the death of Osama bin Laden in a US special forces raid in Pakistan in May.</p><p><br />Violence is down across Iraq from its peak in 2006 and 2007, but attacks remain common. A total of 259 people were killed in violence in Iraq in July, according to official figures, the second-highest figure in 2011.<br /><br /> </p> |
