| Karachi: Police, FC launch search operation in Lyari Posted: <p> </p><p>According to sources, police and FC launched a search operation against criminals in Lyari in the early hours of Friday.</p><p> </p><p>The sources said that exchange of fire between police and criminal also took place during the search operation. However the law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the area.<br /> </p> |

| Gilani chairs meeting to discuss strategy for ties with US Posted: <p> </p><p>A high-level meeting was held at the PM’s House under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Thursday night.</p><p> </p><p>The meeting was attended by Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms. Hina Rabbani Khar, Minister for Finance, Dr. Abul Hafeez Shaikh, Chief of the Army Staff, General Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani, DG, ISI, Lt. General Muhammad Zaheerul Islam, Pakistan Ambassador to US Ms. Sherry Rehman, the foreign and the finance secretaries.</p><p> </p><p>The meeting took stock of the recent developments in the region and discussed matters related to Afghan peace and reconciliation and new terms of re-engagement with US/NATO/ISAF in accordance with the recommendations of the Parliament.<br /><br /> </p> |
| Jr Asia Cup Hockey: Pak squad leave for Malaysia Posted: <p> </p><p>Pakistan junior hockey team left Karachi for Malaysia to participate in the 7th Men s Junior Asia Cup. Umar Bhutta is leading the Pakistan team in the tournament which will be played from May 3 to May 13 in Malacca, Malaysia.</p><p> </p><p>A training camp was organized at the Hockey Club of Pakistan in Karachi where chief coach Rana Mujhahid supervised the training session.</p><p> </p><p>Captain Umar Bhutto while speaking before team’s departure for Malaysia said that the team underwent extensive training in Karachi. He said that his team will not take any match lightly.</p><p> </p><p>Teams from Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Japan, China, Iran and hosts Malaysia are taking part in the tournament.<br /> </p> |
| Khanewal: Two killed for refusing to pay extortion money Posted: <p> </p><p>According to details, accused Imran and Ijaz Ahmad demanded extortion money from Qaim Bus Stand manager Liaquat in Nawan Shaher near Khanewal. The accused Imran and Ijaz opened fire and shot dead Liaquat Ali and Nasir Hussain when the bus stand manager refused to pay the money.</p><p> </p><p>The heirs of deceased staged a protest on the behavior of police who reach the site of the incident after two hours. The protesters also blocked the road.<br /> </p> |
| Lahore: Jinnah Hospital staff reinstated Posted: <p> </p><p>The Punjab Health Department reinstated Prof Saeed Anwar, Dr Amir Nadeem, Dr Riffat Ameen Niazi, Dr Sohail Safdar, former director finance Tanvir beg, Pharmacist Faiza Hussain, Khurram Shahzad, Aleem Khan, store keeper Ijaz Zaidi and Prof Nasir Raza Zaidi who were suspended due to presence of expiry MIR injections in the hospital.</p><p> </p><p>The matter was investigated by an inquiry committee but the pharmaceutical company replaced the injection upon which the Punjab Health Department reinstated the staff of the hospital.<br /> </p> |
| Jaffarabad: Youth picks 30kg food pot with teeth Posted: <p> </p><p>According to details, Muhammad Iqbal of Dera Allah Yar Baloch kept the food pot weighing 30 kg aloft in his teeth for 10 minutes.</p><p> </p><p>Speaking after his stunt, Iqbal informed that he is doing this stunt for the past four years. He informed that he can also pick cart, 30 kg bag of flour and three bricks with his teeth. Iqbal said the he needed government’s patronage to perform other stunts as well.<br /> </p> |
| Karachi: 3 killed, 9 injured in firing incidents Posted: <p> </p><p>According to details, some unidentified persons shot dead a Pakistan People’s Party provincial leader Malik Muhammad Khan in Lyari area.</p><p> </p><p>In another incident, some unidentified persons riding on a motorcycle shot dead a youth near Water Pump in Federal B Area.</p><p> </p><p>In Babar Market in Landhi area, some unidentified motorcyclists shot dead a youth named Gulshan. The deceased was security guard of ANP leader Aman Ullah Mehsud.</p><p> </p><p>Meanwhile, three people sustained injuries in firing incident in Qasba Colony while six more people were wounded in firing in Jackson, Pak Colony, Buffer Zone and Orangi Pirabad areas.<br /> </p> |
| US hopes Pakistan resolves political row Posted: <p> </p><p>The United States on Thursday voiced hope that Pakistan would resolve a row centered on its prime minister, which has heated up just as the two nations look to repair an uneasy partnership.</p><p> </p><p>The State Department said that Marc Grossman, the US special envoy visiting Islamabad, would meet Friday with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, who faces removal from office after a contempt conviction by the Supreme Court.</p><p> </p><p>"We do consider this an internal matter," State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters.</p><p> </p><p>But she added: "We expect that Pakistan is going to resolve these kinds of issues in a just way and a transparent way that upholds Pakistani laws and its constitution."</p><p> </p><p>The Supreme Court found Gilani guilty of contempt over his refusal to obey an order to write to the authorities in Switzerland to ask them to restart corruption cases against his ally President Asif Ali Zardari.</p><p> </p><p>Relations between the United States and Pakistan have been in crisis for the past year after a US raid killed Osama bin Laden and a NATO attack near the Afghanistan border killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.</p><p> </p><p>Nuland said that Grossman took up all issues for discussion presented by Pakistan, which has urged an end to US drone strikes in its territory and a formal apology for the troops killing.<br /> </p> |
| Bahrain mourners attack police after funeral march Posted: <p> </p><p>Bahraini protesters attacked a police station with petrol bombs on Thursday and riot police responded with teargas and stun grenades after a funeral march for a man killed in clashes during the Gulf Arab state s Formula One race last week.</p><p> </p><p>Petrol bombs set the police station s wall ablaze and the clashes spilled onto a main highway, holding up traffic for up to an hour, Reuters witnesses said.</p><p> </p><p>The clashes, in the Manama neighbourhood of al-Bilad al-Qadeem, took place after thousands of mourners visited the grave of Salah Abbas Habib, 36, who was found dead on Saturday after disappearing during fighting between protesters and police.</p><p> </p><p>Bahrain, where the Sunni Muslim Al Khalifa family rules over a majority Shi ite population, has been in turmoil since a pro-democracy uprising erupted last year after successful revolts in Egypt and Tunisia.</p><p> </p><p>Habib was buried by his family in Shakhura village on Monday, and friends said his body had extensive birdshot wounds inflicted during clashes with police on Friday.</p><p> </p><p>The main opposition party Wefaq says Habib s body showed signs of torture, including multiple fractures and birdshot pellets apparently fired at close range. The interior ministry has said it will establish what happened to Habib.</p><p> </p><p>Wefaq says his death takes to 81 the number of people killed since the protests began. That figure includes 35 who died during the initial uprising and more than two months of martial law, among them five security personnel.<br /> </p> |
| CNG stations in Sindh to be closed for 24 hours Posted: <p> </p><p>The CNG stations across Sindh, including Karachi, will remain closed from Saturday (today) 9:00am to Sunday 9:00am.</p><p> </p><p>According to the Sui Southern Gas Company, the decision has been taken by gas load management.</p><p> </p><p>The surveillance teams of the Sui Southern Gas Company would examine implementation of the decision made by the company.</p><p> </p><p>According to rules and regulation, the CNG stations committing violation to the regulation would have to remain deprived of gas for another 24 hours.<br /> </p> |

| Osamas family deported to Saudi Arabia Posted: <p> </p><p>Pakistan s government says Osama bin Laden s three widows and his children have been deported to Saudi Arabia.</p><p> </p><p>A statement said the family left early Friday to the "country of their choice, Saudi Arabia."</p><p> </p><p>The family was detained by Pakistani authorities immediately after the pre-dawn American raid on May 2, 2011, that killed the al-Qaida leader.</p><p> </p><p>The US commandos took bin Laden s body, which they later buried at sea, but left his family behind.<br /> </p> |
| PPP wins PP 194 Multan by-election Posted: <p> </p><p>According to unofficial results, Pakistan Peoples’ Party candidate Usman Bhatti bagged over 20416 votes and remained on top whereas PML-N candidate Moeen Riaz Qureshi received 20097 votes.</p><p> </p><p>The polling started at 8:00am and ended at to 5:00pm in the evening. No unpleasant incident took place during the by-poll. <br />134 polling stations had been set up for 184,400 registered voters to exercise their right of vote.</p><p> </p><p>The city district government had imposed Section 144 to ensure the process of by-polls in a transparent and peaceful manner.</p><p> </p><p>It is worth mentioning that the seat of PP-194 Multan-1 had fallen vacant following PML-N s MPA Shahid Mehmood Khan joining of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.<br /> </p> |
