Nisar to meet TTP negotiators Khawar Ghumman ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan will meet members of the Taliban negotiating committee on Saturday to assess the situation after the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan refused to extend its ceasefire but kept the doors of dialogue open. An interior ministry official said that after getting an input from the Cabinet Committee on National Security (CCNS), Chaudhry Nisar had decided to hold discussions with the three-member TTP team headed by Maulana Samiul Haq on the possibility of taking the peace process forward.
Soldier killed in Peshawar; army depot destroyed in Landi Kotal Ali Hazrat Bacha and Ibrahim Shinwari PESHAWAR/LANDI KOTAL: Only two days after the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan refused to extend its ceasefire, a military convoy was attacked in the suburbs of Peshawar and a large stockpile of arms and ammunition was destroyed in a series of explosions in an army camp in Landi Kotal. One soldier lost his life and three others suffered injuries when the military convoy came under attack on the Frontier Road in Peshawar suburbs on Friday, police said.
Prosecution chief’s appointment upheld The Newspaper's Staff Reporter ISLAMABAD: The Special Court hearing treason case against former president retired Gen Pervez Musharraf rejected on Friday a petition against the appointment of Advocate Mohammad Akram Sheikh as head of the prosecution team. Through his legal team, led by Sharifuddin Pirzada, Mr Musharraf had challenged the appointment soon after the proceedings of the case commenced in December.
Asif affirms respect for army The Newspaper's Correspondent ISLAMABAD: After stirring up a hornet’s nest with a hard-hitting speech against retired Gen Pervez Musharraf, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif issued on Friday a statement denouncing the media for its “false and misleading” coverage of his remarks and reaffirmed his support and respect for the armed forces. The media furore over his remarks was triggered when the minister, speaking in the National Assembly on March 31, praised the decision to try Mr Musharraf and described the trial as “an important event in the history of Pakistan”.
Gang of sectarian killers busted Faisal Ali Ghumman LAHORE: The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) claimed on Friday to have busted a gang linked to the outlawed Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) and involved in targeted killings. Police said the CIA arrested six members of the gang and seized weapons and ammunition from them.
Unicef employees go missing The Newspaper's Staff Reporter KARACHI: Two local employees of a UN agency went missing from Sohrab Goth on Friday and are suspected to have been kidnapped. “Two men associated with the UN have gone missing after returning from picnic,” said Karachi AIG Shahid Hayat Khan.
