PESHAWAR: A powerful blast has ripped through a roadside restaurant located in the Khyber Super Market in Peshawar, killing at least 32 persons and wounding scores others, SAMAA reported.
Some people have died after being gutted in raging ablaze. Several more people are feared injured. As per hospital sources, the death toll may rise further given the number of wounded persons and the critical condition they are in. The blast was powerful enough to shatter the windowpanes of nearby buildings while the restaurant located alongside a five-story residential tower has destroyed completely, collapsing big portion of the plaza. Police and other law enforcement agencies rushed to the site of blast and cordoned off the area.
Police said that they were not clear about the nature of the blast that whether it was a planted of suicide explosion. Rescue services have been kick started following the incident. Wounded persons are being shifted to hospital for treatment of injuries. Several people are feared trapped under the rubble of restaurant and the collapsed plaza. Also, the fierce fire has broken out on account of breakage of Sui gas pipeline following the blasts. Bomb disposal squad, fire tenders, rescue 1122 have reached the site and are amid rescue activities.
It is pertinent to mention here that the area of Khyber Super Market houses many restaurants, government offices and the offices of television and newspapers. This place remains busy and crowded due to location of restaurants that keep serving people till late night. A minor blast of gas cylinder a couple of hours earlier left three persons wounded in this area. SAMAA GO TO SOURCE
PESHAWAR: Twin blasts have occurred near super market, injuring several people here on late Saturday night, Geo News reported. According to the initial reports, building of super market caught fire after the blasts. Rescue teams reached the spot soon after the incident and kicked off relief activities. The injured are being rushed to nearby hospitals.
