Stable Afghanistan in Pakistan’s interest: Gilani
Karzai says insurgents’ attacks in Bajaur and Dir are worrisome and are being investigated.
Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Saturday said that Pakistan was ready to do anything for peace in Afghanistan as a stable Afghanistan was in the interest of Pakistan.
Addressing a joint press conference, he said that the war on terrorism was adversely affecting the economies of both the countries.
He said that extremism had made the two countries hostages; therefore, a joint operation would be launched against militants. He said that both countries also agreed to increase communication system.
Gilani said that Jalalabad would be connected with Peshawar by rail, adding that defence officials of both countries participated in the conciliation commission.
He also said that businessmen had been invited to invest in Pak-Afghan joint projects. He said Pak-Afghan cooperation was necessary for regional peace.
He said that PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif was invited to dinner but he expressed his inability to attend it.
Addressing on the occasion, Karzai said that it was his 12th visit to Pakistan and relations between the two countries consolidated on every visit.
He said that the conciliation commission meeting would be called on monthly basis. The next meeting of the commission will be held in October, Karzai said.
He said that the insurgents’ attacks in Bajaur and Dir were worrisome and were being investigated. Karzai said that he wanted to go to Murree, but did not want to bother tourists.
