Peshawar mosque sparks Ramazan moon row

PESHAWAR, July 31: A row over Ramazan moon erupted in the country on Sunday after Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai of the non-official ruet-i-hilal committee of Qasim Ali Khan Mosque announced that evidence of the sighting of moon had been received and Monday would be the first day of the fasting month in Peshawar and adjoining areas.
 
He said the committee had received five evidences on Sunday night.According to him, the moon was sighted in Rigi, on the outskirts of Peshawar...

Gilani to laud role of SC in NA today

ISLAMABAD, July 31: Reciprocating the Supreme Court's soft stance on the issue of relegation of Establishment Secretary Sohail Ahmed to the ineffective bureaucratic position of 'officer on special duty', Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in his address to the National Assembly on Monday will praise the role of the apex court, according to sources privy to a decision taken by the government.
 
"The prime minister will be calm and polite in his speech and will laud the role of judiciary," a PPP leader told this correspondent on Sunday...

Petrol and light diesel prices raised

ISLAMABAD, July 31: Prices of petroleum products, except the high speed diesel, have been increased for August by up to 5.2 per cent.
 
Syed Jawad Nasim, the spokesman for the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra), said here on Sunday that the price of motor spirit (petrol) had been increased by Rs1.09 per litre (1.3 per cent), to Rs84.80 from Rs83.71. The highest increase of 5.2 per cent has been made in the price of high octane blending component. Its per litre price will now go up to Rs107.80 from Rs102.46 per litre...
