30 students among 37 killed as school bus crashes in Kallar Kahar

CHAKWAL, Sept 26: At least 37 people — 30 students, six teachers and a school principal — were killed and more than 65 suffered serious injuries when a school bus overturned in Kallar Kahar area on Monday night. According to police, the accident took place near Salt Range after brakes of the bus failed. The school principal was identified as Mr Hafeez.
 
Students of the Grammar School, situated in Millat Town of Faisalabad, accompanied by teachers, were returning to Faisalabad from Murree and Islamabad where they had gone on a picnic. They were on way to Faisalabad via Kallar Kahar, also a picnic point, when the tragedy struck and more than 100 students were on board the bus...

Gilani convenes APC on 29th

ISLAMABAD, Sept 26: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has convened an All-Party Conference on Sept 29 and contacted more leaders of national political parties on Monday and invited them to a briefing on to the security situation faced by the country in the wake of serious allegations levelled by the US against the armed forces and ISI.

US working constructively with Pakistan to end row

NEW YORK, Sept 26: Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar said here on Sunday that the Haqqani group that the US was now charging with attacks on the American embassy in Kabul had been CIA's "blue-eyed boy" for many years.

Counterfeit purification tablets supplied in Sindh

ISLAMABAD, Sep 26: An Ireland-based manufacturer of water purification tablets in Pakistan has informed the National Disaster Management Authority that over eight million tablets sent to the flood-affected areas in Sindh were 'counterfeit' and posed a 'threat' to people's health.

ISLAMABAD, Sept 26: The Pakistan Muslim League-N formally demanded on Monday that Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani should convene a joint session of parliament to discuss the security situation with particular reference to tense relations with the United States.

Transborder water authority set up

ISLAMABAD, Sept 26: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has set up a new agency — Pakistan Transborder Water Organisation (PTWO) — to look into construction of dams and water sector projects by upper riparian countries, India and Afghanistan, and coordinate steps to protect Pakistan's water rights on rivers flowing from the neighbouring countries.

Courts dismissed 35 pleas against armed forces

ISLAMABAD, Sept 26: Superior judiciary has dismissed 35 petitions of 52 military personnel and civilians filed against the armed forces over the past five years.
 
According to documents submitted by the Judge Advocate General (JAG) branch to the Rawalpindi bench of Lahore High Court in a case relating to an attack on the General Headquarters (GHQ), the superior judiciary, including the Supreme Court, Federal Shariat Court and LHC, upheld the decision of the Field General Court Marshal (FGCM) on the petitions of army officers, soldiers and civilians because of a jurisdictional bar under Clause 3 of Article 199 of the Constitution...
