ISLAMABAD, Oct 13: The National Assembly turned into a virtual battleground on Thursday when members from the Pakistan Muslim League-N and Muttahida Qaumi Movement lunged at each other after exchanging harsh words and abuses.

PML-N rejects Bokhari's nomination as NAB chief

ISLAMABAD, Oct 13: The Pakistan Muslim League-N has rejected the nomination of former naval chief Admiral (retd) Fasih Bokhari as chairman of the National Accountability Bureau, but without raising any objection to his person, sources in the party told Dawn.
 
In a letter sent to President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday, Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan is learnt to have said that Mr Bokhari's appointment was not acceptable to his party because the constitutional process had not been followed "in letter"...

100,000 tons of sugar to be imported

ISLAMABAD, Oct 13: With Rabi sowing at a critical stage, the government on Thursday delayed a decision to import urea, which is estimated to be short of requirement by 1.2 million tons because of inadequate supply of gas, and instead allowed import of 100,000 tons of sugar to cover a shortage arising out of damage suffered by the sugarcane crop in Sindh from devastating monsoon rain and flood.
 
A meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet, presided over by Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, also allowed the Zarai Taraqiati Bank to gradually increase its mark-up rate by more than 5 per cent to about 14 per cent...
