WASHINGTON, Oct 25: The United States and Pakistan agree on a framework for holding direct talks with the militants and are now working to operationalise the plan, says the US State Department.

Endless pension wait for retired railway workers

LAHORE, Oct 25: The cash-starved Railways could not pay pension to majority of its retired employees on Tuesday, the 25th day of non-payment of pension.

The elderly former workers started assembling in front of the bank at PR headquarters early in the morning. A majority of the pensioners who had not been paid over the past two months or so broke into tears when bank employees informed them that funds had not been transferred till 10am...

Report on accounts of NICL scam accused missing, SC told

ISLAMABAD, Oct 25: The Supreme Court appeared upset when FIA's former additional director general Zafar Ahmed Qureshi informed it on Tuesday that a communication from Britain's Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) containing details of bank accounts of the accused in the NICL scam, including Chaudhry Moonis Elahi, had gone missing.

"When I was investigating the scam, I was informed in writing that the original report of SOCA against Moonis Elahi had been lost," he told a three-judge bench which had taken up the matter after a break of two months...

Saudi crown prince laid to rest

RIYADH, Oct 25: World leaders poured into Riyadh to offer condolences on the death of Saudi Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz who was buried on Tuesday in the presence of an ailing King Abdullah.President Asif Ali Zardari was also in Riyadh to offer condolences. He was accompanied by Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.

Prince Sultan died on Saturday in a New York hospital and his successor is yet to be named...

Video of kidnapped Swiss couple emerges

KP governor sets conditions for negotiations

ISLAMABAD, Oct 25: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Syed Masood Kausar said on Tuesday that while the government was open to talks with its 'own people' as envisaged in a resolution passed by the recent All Party Conference, success of such a dialogue depended on flushing out foreign miscreants from the tribal areas and seeking consent of local tribesmen who have suffered the most.

Talking to newsmen at a local hotel after attending a ceremony to reward people who had suffered because of incidents of terrorism, the governor said he had ordered full implementation of reforms introduced in the notorious Federal Crimes Regulations and invited political parties to identify areas where new laws were being violated...

Taliban should lead talks, says Haqqani group

PESHAWAR, Oct 25: The Haqqani group will not take part individually in any peace talks with the United States and negotiations must be led by the Taliban, a commander of the Afghan militant outfit said on Tuesday.

"They will not be able to find a solution to the Afghan conflict until and unless they hold talks with the Taliban shura," he said while talking to Reuters from Afghanistan...

Azad Kashmir judge shot and injured

ISLAMABAD, Oct 25: The Chief Justice of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mughal, was shot and injured in Muzaffarabad on Tuesday.

"He was on his evening walk on the university campus when someone hiding in the bushes fired at him. He was hit by a bullet in the abdomen," police official Riaz Abbasi said...

Four killed in Lower Dir bomb blast
