ISLAMABAD, Oct 28: The Supreme Court observed on Friday that Pakistan Railways treated its "pensioners as beggars" and warned that salary cheques of officers would be seized if they failed to make payment to pensioners in time. It also ordered the organisation to open bank accounts of pensioners in branches near their homes.
"Non-payment to pensioners is a violation of human rights while on the other hand railways property is being sold out," Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry observed...

13 Taliban killed in S. Waziristan drone attack

Police officer on Taliban hit-list killed in Nowshera bombing

NOWSHERA, Oct 28: A police officer and his driver were killed when a suicide bomber blew himself up near his vehicle on Nowshera-Mardan Road on Friday, official sources said.
Syed Ajmir Shah, the SHO of Risalpur police station, achieved fame a couple of years ago for anti-insurgent operations he carried out when he was the SHO of Akora Khattak police station. He was given the presidential award in recognition of his services. ..

ISLAMABAD, Oct 28: The Zilhaj moon was sighted in the country on Friday and Eidul Azha would fall on Nov 7 (Monday), Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee Chairman Mufti Muneebur Rehman announced on Friday.

Ex-minister to defend RPP contracts in SC

ISLAMABAD, Oct 28: Former water and power minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, a vociferous proponent of rental power projects (RPPs), will appear before the Supreme Court on Monday to defend allegations of corruption in the award of contracts to different companies.

Turkish boy survives five days under rubble
