4 security men found dead near Jhelum

RAWALPINDI, Nov 12: Four security officials and a civilian were found dead on Saturday after going missing the previous day following an unsuccessful attempt to catch a leader of the outlawed Lashkar-i-Jhangvi in Pir Chunbbal, one of the most dangerous areas in Jhelum district's Pind Dadan Khan town.

No organisation has claimed responsibility for the killings. Police contingents from Jhelum and Chakwal launched a joint operation in Pind Dadan Khan after receiving intelligence that a group of militants were hiding in the treacherous hilly terrain of Pir Chunbbal. District police chiefs (DPOs) of Jhelum and Chakwal led the manhunt, which was called off after nightfall without any arrest...

ISLAMABAD, Nov 12: Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry said on Saturday that no court would approve assumption of power by an authority not mentioned in the Constitution and warned that any such move could invoke Article 6 of the Constitution.

Pakistan army on board, says Singh

NEW DELHI, Nov 12: Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said on Saturday that a second round of talks with Islamabad would begin soon and believes the Pakistan army was on board with the peace process he discussed with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani this week.

Speaking to Indian reporters on his way home from the Maldives, Dr Singh defended his description of Mr Gilani as a man of peace, but said it did not imply trusting anyone blindly. The India-Pakistan peace process was subject to accidents, the Press Trust of India (PTI) quoted him as warning...

Nawaz sees bid to divide established parties

LAHORE, Nov 12: Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Nawaz Sharif said on Saturday that a process of dividing established political parties to create 'puppet parties' was being repeated despite disastrous results in the past like derailment of democracy and disintegration of the country.

"It is unfortunate that no one has learned a lesson from history and the process is repeated again and again," he said during a meeting with leaders of two warring factions of his party from Faisalabad. Gul Bahadar abandons peace talks

MIRAMSHAH, Nov 12: A top militant 'commander' in North Waziristan said on Saturday that his group was abandoning peace talks with the government in protest against the bombing on Wednesday of a hospital and other buildings in the main bazaar of Miramshah.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Hafiz Gul Bahadar, leader of his Masul-wa-Khadimul Mujahideen group, threatened to carry out retaliatory activities if security forces continued with their 'punitive' actions.According to the statement, the Shura Mujahideen Waziristan decided to wind up the peace jirga with the government in reaction to the bombing by security forces of a medical complex and drug stores...

Arab League suspends Syria, seeks sanctions

Gunman kills seven in Kazakhstan

ASTANA, Nov 12: Seven people were killed on Saturday in the southern Kazakh city of Taraz when a suspected Muslim extremist went on a shooting rampage and then blew himself up.
