ISLAMABAD, Nov 27: Sunday saw a flurry of activities in the capital as the government went into overdrive to express its anger over the Nato air strike that took place in the early hours of Saturday.

While the American administration was informed of the decisions taken by the Defence Committee of the Cabinet, including the blocking of the Nato supply routes as well as the deadline to vacate Shamsi airbase, the opposition raised questions about the preparedness of the military personnel who had been killed in the attack...

WASHINGTON: The United States and Nato on Sunday described the air strikes on Pakistani posts as an "unintended incident" but reports in the US media indicated that Afghan troops operating in the border region had directed the Nato strikes that killed 24 Pakistani army personnel.

PESHAWAR, Nov 27: Funeral prayers for military personnel killed in Nato air strikes on a border post in Mohmand Agency were offered at the Garrison Park on Sunday and political and religious partiers condemned the attack and held protest demonstrations all over the country.

Army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani joined the prayers for the 24 personnel, a major and a captain among them. Stringent security measures were taken in the cantonment area with the main entry points having been sealed...

Two scouts on Muharram duty killed in Karachi

KARACHI, Nov 27: Two scouts performing Muharram duty at the Numaish intersection on the city's main M.A. Jinnah Road were killed and another injured in an attack on Sunday.

At least eight people, including a reporter of Waqt television, were injured and a car, a van and around two dozen motorcycles were set ablaze by a large number of enraged people who had gathered at the place after the attack...

Cars carrying Dawn copies taken away, owner killed

QUETTA, Nov 27: Two cars carrying copies of Dawn from Karachi to Quetta were snatched and their owner was shot dead in Khuzdar district on Sunday.

Sources said armed men intercepted the vehicles and asked the drivers to hand over the cars to them. They shot dead cars' owner Nadir Khan Nurzai, who was driving one of the vehicles, when he offered resistance. The attackers tied the hands of the other driver and took away the cars...

Arab League approves sanctions on Syria

CAIRO, Nov 27: Arab foreign ministers and Turkey agreed to a list of sweeping sanctions on Sunday designed to cripple the Syrian regime of President Bashar Al-Assad, who has defied pressure to halt a bloody crackdown on protests.

As another 15 civilians were reported dead in Syria, the 22-member Arab League announced an immediate ban on transactions with the Syrian government and central bank and a freeze on Syrian government assets in Arab countries...
