Nominal cut in petrol price; no change for diesel
-----------------------------------------------------------------
By Kalbe Ali
ISLAMABAD, Oct 31: The government has decided not to pass on to consumers the full impact of declining oil prices in the international market in order to cover adjustments made in petroleum levy. It reduced the price of petrol by only Rs1.54 per litre to Rs87.41 and kept that of diesel unchanged at Rs94.15 per litre for the month of November.
The federal government deregulated the prices of almost all petroleum products in June this year and allowed refineries and oil marketing companies to announce ex-refinery and ex-depot prices every month, keeping in view the import parity price. However, prices are notified by the Oil and Gas Regulation Authority (Ogra)...

CJ orders PR chief to send corruption cases to NAB
----------------------------------------------------------------
By Nasir Iqbal
ISLAMABAD, Oct 31: A Supreme Court hearing on the state of affairs in Pakistan Railways exposed on Monday an amazing tale of ineptness where one of the largest state entities was turned into a cesspool of corruption in a systematic and deliberate manner.
"Ninety metric tons of silver worth millions was sold for mere Rs28,000 as scrap, while a light bulb worth Rs60 is being purchased at Rs400, whereas absence of maintenance turned expensive locomotives into junk one by one, besides a Grade-18 officer, a blue-eyed boy of the railways minister, is promoted to hold a Grade-20 post of secretary purchase," deplored Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, who is heading a two-judge bench that had taken notice of the recent death of a pensioner...

Taliban attacks not to foreclose talks: US
----------------------------------------------------------------
By Anwar Iqbal
WASHINGTON, Oct 31: A militant bombing that killed 13 US troops this week does not foreclose the option for talking to the Taliban to seek a negotiated settlement of the Afghan crisis, a senior Obama administration official said on Monday.
The official noted that the US had "dreaded hearing about" such an attack and it had further strengthened its resolve for continuing "aggressively and robustly" its military offensive against the militants...
