Foreign Office clears confusion: MFN status decision to come later

ISLAMABAD, Nov 3: The Foreign Office on Thursday tried to clear the air about the 'most favoured nation' (MFN) status for India, saying the federal cabinet had only agreed to the proposal 'in principle' and a decision would be taken after consultations between the commerce ministries of the two countries.

"The cabinet unanimously decided in principle to according MFN (status) to India, which both sides will have to work towards in further engagements by their commerce secretaries," Foreign Office spokesperson Tehmina Janjua said at her weekly media briefing...

Nepra allows power tariff hike for Wapda companies

ISLAMABAD, Nov 3: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) approved on Thurdsay an increase of Rs1.77 per unit in electricity tariff for distribution companies of Wapda under the monthly fuel adjustment formula.

The increase is based on power generation in September and will apply to all except lifeline consumers using up to 50 units per month and those of the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC)...

London court fixes corrupt cricketers, agent

LONDON, Nov 3: Cricketers Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamir were jailed on Thursday for their roles in last year's spot-fixing scandal which the judge said had damaged the integrity of a game renowned for its fairness.

Former captain Butt was sentenced to 30 months, while Asif was given one year and fellow pace bowler Aamir six months at London's Southwark Crown Court as the sporting world was given a strong message that corruption would be punished by much more than fines and suspensions...

Three die in Miramshah drone attack

MIRAMSHAH, Nov 3: Three suspected militants were killed and two others injured when four missiles fired by a US drone slammed into a residential compound in the Darpakhel Serai area of Miramshah in North Waziristan Agency on Thursday.

Local people said that six unmanned aircraft hovered over the area at the time of the attack. At around 3pm, one of the drones fired two missiles into a house but it missed the target. Later, two more missiles were fired that hit the house, destroying it completely...

Rs82 million fine on PTCL
