PM hints at staying aligned with US

ISLAMABAD, Dec 2: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday ordered review of the national security paradigm and relations with the United States and Nato, but at the same time admitted that remaining aligned with Washington was the best way to achieve peace in Afghanistan.

"We believe that the way forward is to make honest efforts to get clarity and develop coherence, especially between Pakistan, Afghanistan and the United States for instituting a credible process for a durable political settlement," Mr Gilani said in his opening remarks at a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS)...

PUL-I-ALAM (Afghanistan), Dec 2: A powerful truck bomb exploded near the gate of a Nato base in Afghanistan on Friday, killing one person and wounding as many as 70 others, including a foreign soldier, officials said.

Organisers informed of govt decision

BERLIN: Pakistan has officially withdrawn from an international conference on Afghanistan, Germany's foreign ministry said on Friday, saying that it regretted the boycott.

Senate calls for resisting attacks

ISLAMABAD, Dec 2: The upper house of parliament has called for putting up resistance against attacks on the country's sovereignty and condemned the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato) attack on border posts in Mohmand Agency that claimed the lives of 24 military men.

WASHINGTON, Dec 2: The US Defence Department said on Friday that Pakistan was refusing to participate in the US investigation of last week's Nato bombing along the Afghanistan border which killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.
