15 militants killed in Upper Orakzai

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>According to the sources, 15 more militants were killed in clashes between militants and security forces in Upper Orakzai.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The bombardment by security forced also destroyed three hideouts of the militants.<br />&nbsp;</p>


DI Khan: Five miscreants killed in police encounter

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>According to details, a heavy contingent of police raided the den of miscreants in Kari Hoot area near Chodhawan Police Station area in Dera Ismail khan to rescue three people, including two employees of an insurance company who were kidnapped on Saturday.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The miscreants opened fire on raiding party. Police returned the fire which killed three miscreants while two other blew themselves to escape arrest. The exchange of firing between miscreants and police continued for four hours after which police recovered the three hostages alive.<br />&nbsp;</p>


Karachi: Acid thrown at two girls

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>Giving details of the incident, father of one of the victims informed that some unidentified persons while following the friend of his daughter entered his house in Sarjani Town and threw acid on the girls, injuring them critically.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>According to MLO Civil Hospital, the acid attack caused 16 percent burn injuries to one girl while the other girls received 24 percent burn injuries.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Police have registered the case and started investigation.<br />&nbsp;</p>


Pak-India talks on conventional and nuclear arms today

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>Pakistan and India under the resumption of bilateral talks will have conventional and nuclear confidence building measures on December 26 and 27 in Islamabad.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit giving details of these talks said that the 5th round of expert level talks on conventional confidence building measures will be held on December 26 while the 6th round of talks on nuclear confidence building measures will be held on December 27.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>He said the meetings on conventional and nuclear confidence building measures are in context with the meeting of the Foreign Secretaries of Pakistan and India in Islamabad last year.<br />&nbsp;</p>


Quaids birth anniversary observed with national spirit

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>The 135th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was celebrated on Sunday with national spirit and enthusiasm across the the country.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on the occasion said that the Parliament was a supreme institution as envisioned by Father of the Nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and it was a representative body of the people.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Talking to newsmen after visiting the Mazar of Quaid-e-Azam, the Prime Minister said the parliamentary form of government was the best way for accountability.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>He said that the Quaid-e-Azam did not want a presidential form of government rather he desired a parliamentary system.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&ldquo;I pledge before the Mazar of Quaid that we will respect all institutions and take them along,&rdquo; he said.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>He said under the vision of Quaid-e-Azam, the manadate of government, that has been elected by 18 crore people of the country, should be respected.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Meanwhile adressing at a seminar organized by Al-Noor Welfare Trust here, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Mola Bux Chandio said that democracy can be protected by adopting the teachings of Quaid-e-Azam.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>He said that Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah never believed in geographical, linguistic and sectarian conflicts.Chandio said that the Quaid was a strong believer of democracy.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Karam Shah said that the present era is not less than its delicacies of Pakistan Movement.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>He said that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto tried their best to adopt the teachings of Quaid-e-Azam.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>In Khyber Pakthunkhwa and FATA,the birth anniversary of Quaid was observed with a renew pledge to strictly adhere to his golden principles of Unity, Faith and Discipline to make Pakistan a stronger, developed and democratic welfare-state.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The day dawned with special prayers in mosques for departed soul of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and prosperity and development of Pakistan.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>A number of political, social, cultural and educational organisations organized different programmes to mark this momentous occasion in a befitting manner.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>In this connection, a function arranged by old students of Edwards College Peshawar was held where speakers paid glowing tributes to Father of the Nation. <br />&nbsp;</p>


Christmas celebrated with religious zeal and enthusiasm

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>Like other parts of the globe, the Christian community in Pakistan on Sunday celebrated the holy festival of Christmas with religious zeal and enthusiasm.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The day started with special prayers at Churches. Christmas trees were decorated with lights and colourful balls in Christian colonies, outside shopping malls and alongside the important roads.The Christian community in the country renewed their commitments to follow the teachings of the their religion in letter and spirit.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Special ceremonies and masses were held in all churches across the country with prayers for peace and stability in the country. Christmas is the day for family reunions. Many Christians traditionally celebrate a midnight mass at midnight on Christmas Eve, marking the beginning of Christmas Day.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>In Rawalpindi and Islamabad prayers were held at Catholic and Protestant churches. The biggest services were conducted at Catholic Church Lal Kurti and Protestant Church on the Maal Road in Rawalpindi.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>In Islamabad a prayers service function was held at the Khatoon Fatima Church. Special prayers were offered for the progress, prosperity and solidarity of the country.&nbsp; A large number of people attended the service.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>In Lahore, Christmas services were held in some 250 city churches, where priests in their sermons urged the participants for complying with the teachings of the Holy Christ and called for integrity, brotherhood and harmony. Special prayers for the progress and prosperity of the country were also offered at all the churches.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>As usual, two major gatherings were held at the Cathedral-The Mall and Saint Anthony&rsquo;s-Lawrence Road. Christmas trees and cribs were decorated in almost all houses of the community.<br />&nbsp;</p>


Red warrants for Shahbaz Bhattis assassins issued: Malik

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Sunday that red warrants for assassins of former Federal Minister Shahbaz Bhatti had been issued and soon they would be brought to justice.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&ldquo;The two assassins are activists of the banned outfit Sipah-e-Sahaba. They managed to reach Middle East. However, we are making efforts for their arrest and will bring them back to the country,&rdquo; he added.<br />&nbsp;</p>


Altaf congratulates Imran on successful rally

CNG stations in Lahore, Multan to remain shut for three days

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>According to Sui Northern gas Pipelines Limited, the gas supply to the industries of Faisalabad, Islamabad, Gujranwala, Multan and Bahawalpur will reuse today after remaining shut for four days.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>On the other hand, the CNG stations in Lahore, Sahiwal, Multan, Gujranwala, and Sheikhupura will remain closed for three days from 6:00am on Monday.<br />&nbsp;</p>


Six Iraqi security members killed in attacks

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>At least four policemen and two soldiers were killed in the Sunni provinces of Salaheddin and Anbar Sunday, security and medical officials said.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>In the deadliest attack, three policemen were killed and six wounded in the village of Garma, east of the former insurgent bastion of Fallujah, when gunmen attacked their checkpoint, Anbar provincial police chief Major General Hadi al-Ruzaij said.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>In Fallujah itself, gunmen shot dead a policeman who was on his way home in the centre of the town, 60 kilometres (40 miles) west of the capital, Fallujah hospital doctor Omar Dalli said.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Meanwhile, in the central town of Dujail, north of Baghdad, a suicide attacker rammed a car bomb into a checkpoint on a highway linking the capital to Tikrit, capital of Salaheddin province, an official in the provincial security command centre said.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The attack left two soldiers dead and four others wounded, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. Eight civilians were also hurt.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Attacks are down from their peak in 2006 and 2007, but violence remains common in Iraq. A total of 187 people died in attacks in November, according to official figures.<br />&nbsp;</p>


Iran not harbouring Al Qaeda financier: foreign ministry

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>Iran denied on Sunday it is harbouring an alleged Al Qaeda fundraiser who has a $10-million US bounty on his head, with the foreign ministry calling the claim &quot;utterly baseless.&quot;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The US charge that Iran was protecting Syrian-born Ezedin Abdel Aziz Khalil was part of an &quot;inept&quot; attempt to implicate Iran in the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States, ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said, according to the website of the state broadcaster IRIB.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The US State Department on Thursday said it was offering a $10-million reward for information leading to the arrest of Khalil, whom it described as a &quot;terrorist financier.&quot;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Khalil, also known as Yacine al-Suri, was put on a US Treasury Department blacklist in July, when he was described as a high-level Al-Qaeda &quot;facilitator&quot; who operated from inside Iran since 2005 &quot;under an agreement between Al-Qaeda and the Iranian government.&quot;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Tehran has previously denied harbouring Al-Qaeda members, and has announced the arrest of at least nine people linked to the terrorist group since December 2010.<br />&nbsp;</p>


Hackers target US security think tank

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>Hackers on Sunday claimed to have stolen a raft of e-mails and credit card data from US-based security think tank Stratfor, promising it was just the start of a weeklong Christmas-inspired assault on a long list of targets.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>One alleged hacker said the goal was to use the credit data to steal a million dollars and give it away as Christmas donations, and images posted online claimed to show the receipts.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Members of the loose-knit hacking movement known as &quot;Anonymous&quot; posted a link on Twitter to what they said was Stratfor&nbsp;s tightly-guarded, confidential client list. Among those on the list: The US Army, the US Air Force and the Miami Police Department.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The rest of the list, which Anonymous said was a small slice of its 200 gigabytes worth of plunder, included banks, law enforcement agencies, defense contractors and technology firms such as Apple and Microsoft.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&quot;Not so private and secret anymore?&quot; the group taunted in a message on the microblogging site.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Lt. Col. John Dorrian, public affairs officer for the Air Force, said that &quot;for obvious reasons&quot; the Air Force doesn&nbsp;t discuss specific vulnerabilities, threats or responses to them.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&quot;The Air Force will continue to monitor the situation and, as always, take apporpriate action as necessary to protect Air Force networks and information,&quot; he said in an email.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Miami Police Department spokesman Sgt. Freddie Cruz Jr. said that he could not confirm that the agency was a client of Stratfor, and he said he had not received any information about any security breach involving the police department.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Anonymous said it was able to get the credit details in part because Stratfor didn&nbsp;t bother encrypting them an easy-to-avoid blunder which, if true, would be a major embarrassment for any security-related company.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Hours after publishing what it claimed was Stratfor&nbsp;s client list, Anonymous posted images online that it suggested were receipts for charitable donations made by the group manipulating the credit card data it stole.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&quot;Thank you Defense Intelligence Agency,&quot; read the text above one image that appeared to show a transaction summary indicating that an agency employee&nbsp;s information was used to donate $250 to a non-profit.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Stratfor said in an email to members that it had suspended its servers and email after learning that its website had been hacked.<br />&nbsp;</p>


Plea to Arab League to monitor Syrian flashpoints

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>The opposition Syrian National Council appealed on Sunday for the Arab League to send observers immediately to the besieged city of Homs and other hot spots of a bloody crackdown on dissent.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The call came a day before a first group of Arab League observers is set to arrive in Syria to begin monitoring a deal the 22-member bloc agreed with the government in Damascus aimed at ending more than nine months of violence.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&quot;Since early this morning, the (Homs) neighbourhood of Baba Amr has been under a tight siege and the threat of military invasion by an estimated 4,000 soldiers,&quot; said the SNC, the main umbrella group of opponents of President Bashar al-Assad.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&quot;The Syrian National Council demands that the Arab League observers go to Homs immediately, specifically to the besieged neighbourhoods, to fulfill their stated mission,&quot; it added in a statement.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that security forces pounded Baba Amro with mortar and heavy machinegun fire, killing an undetermined number of people and wounding 124 others.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>It earlier reported one civilian killed in the city&nbsp;s Karm al-Zeitun district.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The Observatory said 26 people were arrested and tortured in public in nearby Rastan, and that one civilian was killed by security forces in eastern Deir Ezzor province.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>It also reported five civilians shot and wounded in the capital&nbsp;s southern district of Sitt Zeinab.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The central city of Homs has been a focal point of the Assad government&nbsp;s crackdown on anti-regime demonstrations, as well as the site of fierce clashes between the army and deserters.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&quot;Three children who had been wounded on Saturday in military and security operations in the town of Al-Quriya died,&quot; it added, noting that reports of the deaths were delayed as the town is cut off by security forces.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>A nine-member advance team of Arab monitors arrived on Thursday to pave the way for the observer mission to oversee the deal aimed at ending the crackdown, which the UN estimates has killed more than 5,000 people since March.<br />&nbsp;</p>


Yemenis rally, denounce killings of protesters

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>Yemenis are rallying to express their anger over the latest deaths of protesters and to demand the resignation of the country&nbsp;s vice president for failing to bring the killers to justice.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Tens of thousands marched Sunday in the capital Sanaa past the office of Vice President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, denouncing him as a &quot;tool in the hands&quot; of outgoing President Ali Abdullah Saleh.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The march took place as Hadi was meeting with US Ambassador Gerald Feierstein.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>A statement from Hadi&nbsp;s office said they discussed Yemen&nbsp;s crisis and that Hadi appealed for calm.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Troops commanded by Saleh&nbsp;s relatives attacked peaceful protesters in Sanaa on Saturday, killing at least nine. Yielding to pressure to defuse the country&nbsp;s turmoil, Saleh said Saturday he would leave for the United States.<br />&nbsp;</p>


22 feared dead in India boat capsize: report

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>Up to 22 people were feared dead after a boat capsized Sunday on a lake in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, reports said.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The Press Trust of India said 25 people were on board the boat which was taking a scenic tour of the lake about 60 kilometers (37 miles) from the state capital Chennai when it turned over.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Local television quoted police officials as saying 12 bodies had been recovered and 10 people were still missing.<br />Only three survivors were rescued.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The precise cause of the accident was not immediately clear, but such incidents are common in India where small, badly maintained ferries are often dangerously overcrowded.<br />&nbsp;</p>
