Pir Pagara passes away

KARACHI, Jan 10: Pir Pagara, a seasoned politician and the spiritual leader of the Hur Jamaat, passed away in London on Tuesday. He was 83.

The ailing chief of the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional, Pir Syed Mardan Shah II or the present Pir Pagara, was admitted to Aga Khan University hospital on Nov 24 last year where he underwent a surgery to remove a cyst. On Jan 5, he was taken to London by a special air ambulance for treatment of his infected lungs...

NA session on Thursday to discuss crisis

ISLAMABAD, Jan 10: Coalition partners went into an emergency meeting on Tuesday night to review the situation arising out of the Supreme Court's ruling in the NRO implementation case and decided to convene a session of the National Assembly on Thursday evening to chalk out a future course of action.

Terror attack in Jamrud bazaar leaves 30 dead

LANDI KOTAL, Jan 10: A powerful bomb planted in a pick-up exploded at a petrol station in Jamrud bazaar in Khyber Agency, killing over 30 people, four of them Khasadar personnel, and injuring 78 others on Tuesday. The bomb was triggered by remote control.

Plan to freeze resource distribution under 1998 census

ISLAMABAD, Jan 10: The government is considering to freeze resource distribution under the federal divisible pool and job quotas on the basis of 1998 population census to depoliticise the process of the sixth headcount and house listing because Karachi and Hyderabad depict unusually higher population growth of up to six per cent.

A proposal to freeze the population results of 1998 census has officially been submitted to the prime minister and the Council of Common Interests (CCI) by the Population Census Organisation and Statistics Division for a decision at the next meeting, the government informed the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Economic Affairs and Statistics on Tuesday...
