Govt takes oil prices to a new high

ISLAMABAD, Jan 31: Disregarding recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) to freeze oil prices, the government on Tuesday increased petroleum prices by up to six per cent with immediate effect to generate an additional revenue of Rs3 billion.
"Ogra recommends that POL product prices effective Feb 1, 2012, may be kept unchanged by absorbing the said increase in petroleum levy, to provide relief to public at large," the authority had written to the government, arguing that receipts from petroleum products had already shown a rise of Rs9.2 billion over the July-December period last year...

PESHAWAR, Jan 31: Five family members of two missing men, Abdul Basit and Syed Abdul Majid, were allowed to visit the plastic and reconstructive surgery unit of the Lady Reading Hospital and meet them for a few minutes on Tuesday.

ECC approves sugar export to ward off glut

ISLAMABAD, Jan 31: After lifting the almost entire sugarcane stocks, the government has allowed export of 100,000 tons of sugar to improve sugar industry's cash flows and ward off a possible glut in the market that may further bring down the retail price.

'Afghan solution must not imperil Pakistan'

LHC tribunal told to carry on with PIC death probe

Police groping in dark over assassination of MPA's wife, daughter

Govt and military united on policy towards US: Sherry
