Awan's counsel urges SC to spare 'errant child'

ISLAMABAD, Feb 20: The Supreme Court was requested here on Monday to consider former law minister Babar Awan's media jibe at the judiciary as an act of an errant child and spare him as parents do.

US diplomat summoned again over resolution

Bill adopted by Senate with two-thirds vote

ISLAMABAD, Feb 20: The Senate adopted the 20th Constitution Amendment Bill on Monday, but not unanimously as the National Assembly had done last week.

Rs 1,952bn revenue target to be achieved: FBR

ISLAMABAD, Feb 20: Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh was informed on Monday that revenue generation by the Federal Board of Revenue was on track and the target of Rs1,952 billion for the current financial year will be achieved.

A meeting, presided over by Dr Shaikh, was informed by the FBR chairman that net collection for the first seven months (July-January) of the 2011-12 financial year had reached Rs975 billion, showing a growth of 26 per cent over the same period last year...

'UK unable to get Pakistani freed from US military'

LONDON, Feb 20: Britain's Court of Appeal has accepted that the government has been unable to comply with an order to obtain the release of a Pakistani man from a US military prison in Afghanistan because "the Americans are not going to play ball".

In December, lawyers for Yunus Rahmatullah won a writ of habeas corpus from the court to compel British officials to bring the prisoner before the court...

DPC rally condemns drone attacks, military operations

12 killed as coach plunges into ravine

HARIPUR, Feb 20: Twelve people died and 15 others suffered injuries when a passenger coach fell into a ravine in Kotkay area on Monday, sources said.
They said the coach (CA-1507) was heading to Sirikot from Haripur when it plunged into the ravine. Eight people were killed on the spot and four of the wounded died later...

41 Afghan children saved from becoming suicide bombers

KABUL, Feb 20: The Afghan government claimed on Monday that police had rescued 41 children from becoming suicide bombers as they were about to be smuggled across the mountains into Pakistan.

Interior ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi told a news conference that the children aged six to 11 had been released on Feb 15 from the clutches of four militants in eastern Kunar province...
