NEW YORK, Feb 27: Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy won the first ever Oscar award for Pakistan for her documentary 'Saving Face' at the 84th Academy Awards gala on Sunday.

Accepting the world's prestigious award, Ms Chinoy observed: "I want to dedicate this award to all the heroes working on the ground in Pakistan and to all the women in the country who are working for a change. Do not give up as this is your dream."..

Both Rukhsana and Zakia — the two women attacked by their husbands — who played central roles in the film along with plastic surgeon Dr Mohammad Jawad, denied requests to speak to the media for fear of further victimisation. Outrage over preventing women from casting votes

ISLAMABAD, Feb 27: The National Commission on Status of Women has expressed outrage that women were barred from casting their votes in Mardan and Mianwali during the recently-held by-elections and called upon the provincial governments to hold an inquiry into the matter.

Blast near ANP meeting venue; at least 5 dead

ISLAMABAD, Feb 27: A day before the formal hearing by the Supreme Court of a contempt of court charge against Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, his counsel submitted on Monday a miscellaneous application requesting two top government officers and a former law minister to be summoned as court witnesses.

Instead of submitting evidence relating to the contempt of court against the prime minister, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan requested the court to summon Cabinet and Defence Secretary Nargis Sethi, Law Secretary Masood Chishti and former law minister Babar Awan to record their statements as court witnesses...
