| Pakistan does not want Taliban to seize Afghan control: WikiLeaks Posted: <p> </p><p>Pakistan does not want the Taliban to seize control of Afghanistan when international forces pull out, according to a leaked account of a meeting with the recently retired head of its intelligence service.</p><p> </p><p>The Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency has long been accused of siding with the Taliban as part of a strategy to ensure a friendly government in Kabul and to ensure arch-rival India cannot gain a foothold.</p><p> </p><p>However, this year its civilian government has taken pains to insist that any political settlement must be part of an Afghan-led process.</p><p> </p><p>According to WikiLeaks, an interview with Lieutenant-General Ahmad Shuja Pasha, who stepped down as ISI director general last weekend, give an insight into the agency s secretive world and its position on Afghanistan.</p><p> </p><p>The account of the meeting in April last year, written by a researcher with the private intelligence firm Stratfor and obtained by WikiLeaks, suggests the ISI fears that a Taliban takeover would have dangerous implications for Pakistan s security.</p><p> </p><p>"We do not wish to see the Talibs dominate Afghanistan," he said. "On the contrary, we want to see a broad-based government that can end the civil war in that country, which has had a disastrous fallout for us. Of course the Talibs will be a key player in a post-Nato Afghanistan, which we feel is necessary for true peace to take place."<br /> </p> |
| Dana Rohrabacher blames Pakistan for acting against US interests Posted: <p> </p><p>Dana Rohrabacher sent a letter to the President of Radio Free Asia (RFA) requesting they begin “reporting on, and broadcasting to, the Baluchi population in the Baluchi language, especially those who live in Pakistan and Iran.”</p><p>He alleged the government of Pakistan has brutally repressed Baluchi nationalism and denied the Baluchi people their right to self-determination.</p><p> </p><p>“The central Government of Pakistan, despite the billions of dollars in aid that the US government has provided, has not acted in good faith with America, targets Americans for murder and has purposefully moved closer to their main ally, Communist China,” stated Rohrabacher in the letter.</p><p> </p><p>“While the government and intelligence services in Pakistan act against the interests of the United States, I believe America can find common ground with the people of South Asia. The Baluchi people would be very receptive to RFA broadcasts in their own language and the increased exposure to accurate and objective news would no doubt be to our and their great benefit.”</p><p> </p><p>Rep. Rohrabacher, with Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) and Rep. Steve King (R-IA), introduced H. Con. Res. 104 on February 17th, which expresses the sense of Congress that the people of Baluchistan have the right to self-determination and to their own sovereign country.</p><p> </p><p>On February 16th, Rep. Rohrabacher submitted H.R. 4069 to award the Congressional Gold Medal to Shakeel Afridi, the doctor currently jailed by Pakistan for aiding the US raid that killed Osama Bin Laden. In May 2011, Rep. Rohrabacher introduced H.R. 1790 to defund all US assistance to Pakistan.</p><p> </p><p>Rep. | IHC to resume hearing of Osamas wife plea today Posted: <p> </p><p>Islamabad High Court will resume the hearing of a plea filed by Osama bin Laden’s brother-in-law Zakaria al-Sada who prayed to end cases against his sister and granting him permission of meeting with her.</p><p> </p><p>During last proceedings, Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court Iqbal Hamidur Rehman heard the petition seeking end to cases against Osama’s wife.</p><p> </p><p>The court had directed Zakariya’s lawyer to give his arguments regarding admissibility of the petition.<br /> </p> |
| Balochistan target killing: SC to resume hearing today Posted: <p> </p><p>The three-member bench of the Supreme Court comprising Chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Tariq Pervaiz will resume hearing of the case today.</p><p> </p><p>During the previous hearing, the SC summoned Balochistan IG and directed to submit the inquiry report regarding murder of Mukhtar Domki’s family members.</p><p> </p><p>The Chief Justice had expressed his annoyance over the missing of Hamza Advocate and summoned Balochstan IG on next hearing.</p><p> </p><p>The SC has also sought reports from Balochistan Chief Secretary and Balochistan IG regarding kidnapping and target killing in Balochistan.</p><p> </p><p>In his remarks, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that IG is responsible for maintenance of law and order but he mostly remains in Islamabad.</p><p> </p><p>The court also sought report regarding proceedings in murder case of Mukhtar Domki’s family members.<br /> </p> |
| Karachi: Residents block highway against boys abduction Posted: <p> </p><p>Ashfaq Afzal, a 13-year-old resident of Steel Town was kidnapped near his home five days ago.</p><p> </p><p>According to the residents of the area, four suspected persons were held but the child could not be recovered so far. The protesters staged a sit-in on National Highway which caused a heavy traffic jam to several kilometers.</p><p> </p><p>The protesters alleged that police fired teargas shells to disperse the gathering which enraged the mob and they pelted stoned on the vehicles and broke windscreens.</p><p> </p><p>The residents ended their protest after four hours when a Rangers officer gave assurance to recover the child till afternoon.<br /> </p> |

| Lahore: man kills nephew while drinking Posted: <p><br />Police have arrested accused including weapon.</p><p><br />According to sources, Awais Butt, resident of Akbari Mandi was drinking along with his 26-year-old nephew Romail Butt and other friends. During this, uncle and his nephew quarreled over some issue. As a result, Awais Butt lost his temper, became out of senses and ultimately shot his nephew dead.</p><p><br />Police reached site of occurrence and arrested accused Awais Butt with weapon.</p><p><br />The dead body was shifted to hospital for legal formalities. <br /> </p> |
