PPP bracing itself for new battle of nerves

ISLAMABAD, June 27: As soon as the Supreme Court set July 12 as the next hearing date for the NRO judgment implementation case on Wednesday morning, alarms bells were set off in the Prime Minister Secretariat.

Soon after the date was announced by the judges, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf called Attorney General Irfan Qadir and Minister for Law Farooq H. Naek to his office and held a detailed meeting to discuss the possible response from his side. Later in the evening, Mr Ashraf had a second one-to-one meeting with Mr Naek, sources at the PM Secretariat told Dawn...

Pentagon hopeful of deal over Nato routes

WASHINGTON, June 27: Activities to mend rapidly deteriorating relations between the United States and Pakistan picked up on Wednesday as the Pentagon spoke of 'reasons' for believing that the dispute over the Nato supply routes might soon be resolved.

"I think the basis for some kind of agreement (on the Nato supply routes) is there and is real and we hope that we reach a resolution," Pentagon spokesman George Little told reporters here...

LHC asks Zardari to quit one office by Sept 5

Four killed in Sibi railway station blast

QUETTA, June 27: At least four people, including a police constable, were killed and more than 15 injured when a bomb blast rocked the Sibi railway station on Wednesday night.

According to police, the explosion took place soon after the Quetta-bound Jaffar Express had arrived at the station. The passenger train from Rawalpindi was several hours late. The train was parked at platform 2, where the bomb exploded...

New code of conduct slashes expenses by poll candidates

ISLAMABAD, June 27: The Election Commission announced on Wednesday a new code of conduct for polls in accordance with a Supreme Court judgment, limiting expenses and campaigning by candidates.

Rs1.51 hike in power tariff

ISLAMABAD, June 27: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority on Wednesday announced an increase of Rs1.51 per unit in power tariff on account of fuel adjustment charges to match the cost of rising prices of furnace oil in May this year.The hike in tariff was made on a petition filed by the Central Power Purchase Agency, which sought a tariff increase of Rs1.52 per unit.

The CPPA claimed that the actual cost of producing thermal power last month was Rs8.06 per unit whereas the reference cost for electricity production through furnace oil for the month was Rs6.54 per unit...

Four members of anti-Taliban lashkar found dead
