Lashkar-i-Jhangvi claims responsibility: 13 lives lost in brutal attack on Shia pilgrims

QUETTA, June 28: At least 13 people, two women and a policeman among them, were killed and over 20 others injured on Thursday in a bomb attack on a bus mainly carrying Shia pilgrims returning from Iran. Most of the pilgrims belonged to the Hazara community.

Quetta police chief Mir Zubair Mehmood said the constable killed in the attack at Hazarganji was on a police vehicle escorting the bus. He said four policemen had been injured...

Captain, 7 soldiers die in Khyber

60 Hazaras fall victim to terrorism this year

QUETTA: At least 60 people belonging to Hazara community living in Quetta have been killed in targeted attacks, including suicide, remote controlled and timer device bombings and firing, during the past six months.

In January, 14 Hazara people were killed in various attacks. Three members of the community were killed in March and about 20 in April. In May, six Hazaras were shot dead in different attacks...

ISLAMABAD, June 28: The opposition PML-N decided on Thursday to oppose every government move to strike at judiciary either through a legislation or a constitution amendment.

"The most incompetent and corrupt government in the history of Pakistan and its self-seeking allies must see the writing on the wall and avoid an adventure they can never win and which might eventually bring about their downfall," Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said in a statement issued from London and released by his Parliament House office...

NAB wants all RPP accused on ECL

ISLAMABAD, June 28: The National Accountability Bureau has asked the interior ministry to place the names of all accused in the rental power projects case on the Exit Control List, but the ministry is reported to be hesitating to do so because Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf is one of the accused.

"We have written a letter to the interior ministry to put the names of all accused in the case on the ECL," NAB spokesman Zafar Iqbal said. He did not say whether the letter was written before Mr Ashraf had taken oath or after that...

Striking doctors face dismissal

LAHORE, June 28: On the 11th day of their province-wide strike on Thursday night, doctors in Punjab received a serious warning from the government which invoked the Essential Services Act of 1958 to "ensure uninterrupted healthcare to the patients facing doctors' boycott for the last 11 days".

Initially invoked for a period of one month, the act bars doctors from taking part in political or union activities...

Prices of petrol, diesel set for reduction

ISLAMABAD, June 28: The government is likely to reduce prices of petroleum products for the next fortnight (from July 1) because of declining crude prices in the international market.

Calculations made by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) for the July 1-15 fortnight suggest that the price of petrol will be reduced by Rs5.02 to Rs84.49 per litre from Rs89.51. A summary sent by Ogra to the petroleum ministry on Thursday said the government had a cushion to reduce prices in the range of Rs2.48 to Rs6.44 per litre...

Surjeet admits he was sent by RAW

ATTARI (India), June 28: Minutes after stepping on home soil on Thursday after spending over 30 years in Pakistani jails, Surjeet Singh admitted that he was an Indian spy sent to Pakistan.

"I was a RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) agent. No one bothered for me after I got arrested. Don't ask me too much… otherwise the BSF (Border Security Force) will get annoyed," he told media personnel just after arriving here...
