WASHINGTON, July 31: America's ambassador-designate for Islamabad, Richard Olson, told his confirmation hearing on Tuesday that he would focus on persuading Pakistan to crack down on the Haqqani network.

Court stops Arsalan case investigation

ISLAMABAD, July 31: The Supreme Court stopped on Tuesday a Joint Investigation Team's (JIT) inquiry into the Arsalan-Riaz graft case for two days after one of the members of the team was accused of being partial.

Prices of petrol, diesel and CNG increased

ISLAMABAD, July 31: The government increased on Tuesday by up to 8.9 per cent prices of all transport fuels — petroleum products and CNG — with immediate effect and for 15 days to pass on the impact of international prices to consumers.

Pakistan a critical partner in anti-terror war: US

WASHINGTON, July 31: Pakistan remained a critical partner on counter-terrorism efforts, actively engaging against Al Qaeda and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), but its cooperation regarding other terrorist groups, such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, was mixed, said a US report released on Tuesday.

The State Department's counter-terrorism report for 2011 noted that the US raid in Abbottabad that killed Osama bin Ladin, "sparked intense international and domestic scrutiny of Pakistan's security establishment and strained the US-Pakistan relationship and bilateral counter-terrorism efforts"...

10 die in Bolan accident
