Water level rises in Chenab, Jhelum: Heavy rain inundates Punjab cities

LAHORE, Aug 4: A spell of widespread monsoon rains over the upper parts of the country and north-eastern Punjab stretched to Lahore on Saturday, causing flooding in a number of cities and swelling the Chenab and Jhelum rivers.

Young voters likely to play major role in polls

ISLAMABAD, Aug 4: As they account for 47 per cent of the 84.3 million entries on the electoral rolls, the country's youths are set to play a decisive role in the next general election. According to the age details of the enrolled voters released by the Election Commission, 40 million voters are aged between 18 and 35. Of them, 16.2 million are between 18 and 25 years, including 1.58 million voters who attained the age of 18 between Jan 1 and May 31 this year.
Just over 23 million of the voters come in the age bracket of 26 to 35. Another 17 million voters are in the 36-45 age group, 11.9 million are between 46 and 55 years, 8.4 million are aged 56 to 65 years and 6.7 million are older than 65 years...

NAB moves to bail out Riaz in land fraud case

RAWALPINDI, Aug 4: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) to stop an anti-corruption court (ACC) from proceeding against property magnate Malik Riaz in a land fraud case.
On July 30, the ACC had attached properties of Malik Riaz, his son Ali Riaz, Milad Bibi alias Hammad Bibi, Sheikh Sajidur Rehman, Iftikhar Munshi, Iqbal Hussain Shah, Mohammad Ashfaq, Dildar Hussain and Nisarul for their alleged involvement in the 1,401-kanal land fraud case...

PTV chief receives fake SC letter

ISLAMABAD, Aug 4: A letter bearing the 'signature' of a Supreme Court official and received by the managing director of Pakistan Television (PTV), Yousuf Baig Mirza, has turned out to be fake.
The letter dated July 25 and bearing number HRC-35997-G/2010 was 'issued' by the Human Rights Cell of the court to the MD to halt recruitments without first advertising them in the media. "Otherwise, strict legal action would be taken," the fake letter said...
