PPP sticks to stand on Swiss letter

ISLAMABAD, Sept 17: The ruling PPP and it coalition allies have decided that Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf will appear before the Supreme Court in the NRO implementation case on Tuesday to apprise it of his government’s stance on the issue of writing a letter to the Swiss authorities to reopen graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.

Supreme Court reserves verdict: Questions raised over AG’s eligibility to act against Riaz

ISLAMABAD, Sept 17: The Supreme Court reserved on Monday its ruling on Attorney General Irfan Qadir’s eligibility to prosecute property tycoon Malik Riaz of Bahria Town on contempt charges.

A two-judge bench comprising Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan and Justice Ejaz Ahmed Chaudhry postponed the proceedings till Sept 20 to decide whether the attorney general could be allowed to prosecute Malik Riaz because he had represented the property magnate in the past.

PM orders probe into import of sick sheep

KARACHI, Sept 17: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has ordered an inquiry into the recent import of thousands of diseased sheep.

According to a statement issued by the PM’s press secretary on Monday, the Sindh government has been directed to hold an inquiry into the import of the infected sheep and identify those responsible for the illegal act. The premier sought the findings of the inquiry within a week.

N-capable cruise missile test-fired
