100 policemen fall ill after consuming stale food in Karachi

KARACHI, Sept 23: Over 100 policemen fell ill after having dinner at the mess of the Razzaqabad police training college on Sunday night.

But Additional Inspector General of Karachi police Iqbal Mehmood said that about 40 men had fallen ill after consuming stale food.

Petrol and CNG prices increased

ISLAMABAD, Sept 23: The government increased with immediate effect prices of petrol and compressed natural gas (CNG), but reduced the rates of diesel, kerosene and jet fuels.

The new prices announced on Sunday will remain in place for a week.

PM House, ANP disown minister’s statement: Bilour in the soup over bounty

PESHAWAR / ISLAMABAD, Sept 23: The Prime Minister’s Office and the ANP disassociated themselves on Sunday from a bounty offered by Railways Minister Ghulam Ahmed Bilour for anyone who kills the producer of an anti-Islam film.

Mr Bilour’s incitement to murder and particularly his invitation to Al Qaeda and the Taliban to do the job has placed the ANP in an embarrassing position and its acting president Senator Haji Muhammad Adeel said the party had sought a verbal explanation from the federal minister.

President terms attack on Mardan church un-Islamic

ISLAMABAD, Sept 23: President Asif Ali Zardari has condemned and deplored the attack and burning of a church in Mardan..

In a message, the president said on Sunday: “The highly provocative anti-Islam film had been roundly condemned throughout the world and particularly in Pakistan by Muslims and non-Muslims alike but ransacking public and private property particularly the places of worship of other religions was itself un-Islamic and highly condemnable.”

Anti-Islam film continues to spark protests

ATHENS, Sept 23: Muslims on Sunday continued to vent their fury against an anti-Islam film made in the United States with Greece witnessing its first such rally..

The protesters in central Athens chanted “All we have is Mohammad” and held banners reading “We demand an immediate punishment for those who tried to mock our Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him)” as they prepared to march on the US embassy.

Malik urges adequate security for churches

“We have asked all provincial governments to ensure security of churches in their peripheries,” Interior Minister Rehman Malik told reporters on Sunday. “We will provide foolproof security to churches across the country,” he added.

Two Pakistanis stabbed in Athens

ATHENS, Sept 23: Two Pakistani immigrants were in hospital late on Saturday after being stabbed on the margins of an anti-racism rally on the outskirts of Athens, police said. One of them was said to be in a serious condition..

The attack, in the western suburb of Metamorfossi, came after the end of the demonstration, in which about 300 people were protesting racist violence.
