YouTube said Tuesday that it was stopping users in Saudi Arabia from viewing an anti-Islam video that has sparked protests across the Muslim world, after the kingdoms press agency reported that the ruler had banned all access to the film and the site appeared to be blocked there. The online video sharing site said that it was preventing Innocence of Muslims from being seen on its site in Saudi Arabia after being notified by the government there that the clip is breaking the countrys laws.Google Inc., YouTubes owner, has blocked access to the video in Libya and Egypt following violence there, and in Indonesia and India because it says the video broke laws in those countries. The Saudi Press Agency said that the kingdom had sent a request to Google to veil all links containing the video, which was produced in the United States and which ridicules the Prophet Muhammad. The agency said King Abdullah had directed that all websites and links that accessed the video should be blocked. An Associated Press reporter in Saudi Arabia reported that the online video sharing site was inaccessible that evening.

US in 'aggressive steps' to protect embassies: Clinton

Posted:

Washington is also reviewing our security posture at every post and augmenting it where necessary, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton added, after talks with Mexican Foreign Minister Patricia Espinosa. We are taking aggressive steps to protect our staffs in embassies and consulates worldwide, Clinton said, amid a wave of anti-US protests around the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia.A suicide bombing in Kabul on Tuesday brought the number of people who have been killed in a violent backlash over a YouTube trailer for a film mocking Islam to more than 30.Among the dead are four diplomatic staff in Libya, including ambassador Chris Stevens, killed when militants laid siege to the US mission in Benghazi a week ago on September 11 in a four-hour sustained attack with heavy arms.We will not rest until the people who orchestrated this attack are found and punished, Clinton said. The FBI has launched an investigation inside Libya, and Clinton said the US was working with the Libyan government, which is leading its own inquiry, so we can be sure who murdered our four colleagues and under what circumstances.

But thieves seldom target gas pipelines.

All bilateral issues to be discussed in Khar-Clinton meeting: US

Posted:

The spokesperson of the US State Department, Victoria Nuland has termed the forthcoming visit of Pakistani foreign minister to Washington, DC has been long-expected. FM Khar and Secretary Clinton are likely to discuss a full range of bilateral issues in their forthcoming meeting, she said while declining to comment as to how important the issue of Haqqani network will be during these discussions.Well, I’m not going to rack and stack the issues. They’re all important, but you know that we’ve been very intensively focused on our concerns about the Haqqani Network. We’ve been continuing to encourage further squeezing by the Government of Pakistan on the Haqqani Network, and we have now made a full designation, as the Secretary announced a week ago, said while referring to the designation of Haqqaqni network as a foreign terrorist organization. The spokesperson, however, acknowledged that the overall security cooperation was coming back to normal after a tense period. I’m expecting that the full range of issues we have with Pakistan – bilateral, regional, etc – will be covered, including our continuing effort to get our counterterrorism activities back up and running fully, she maintained. When asked about Ambassador Grossmans recent visit to Pakistan, she said that he covered the full range of issues in his meetings with Pakistani leadership and reported the same to Secretary Clinton. We’ll try to build on that conversation going forward. Let me just remind that the Secretary and Foreign Minister Khar have had a very strong relationship ever since Foreign Minister Khar took office, she recalled. On the expectations from the next round of meetings of both dignitaries, she said that this was an effort to revive the relationship. They have both rolled up their sleeves to try to stabilize and strengthen the relationship, and I think this is a good opportunity, obviously, for them to take stock of where we are and continue to try to move forward, she stressed. She also declined to offer any details whether there was any plan in the pipeline to revive Pak-US strategic dialogue on the sidelines of the forthcoming UN General Assembly session. When asked about the closure of US Consulates in Pakistan after protests broke out in response to a religiously sensitive video targeting Muslims, she conceded that the US Consulates General in Lahore, Karachi, and Peshawar were closed Tuesday for public services. But the Embassy in Islamabad is open, although we suspended visa services today. Again, we do that to keep crowds down around the mission, she added. We did see protests throughout the country today, and despite violence in some cities, they have now been dispersed. All of our official American personnel in Pakistan are safe and accounted for. And we are continuing to work with the Government of Pakistan on the security, the spokesman said adding that they were not concerned about the security as such. Our security cooperation in response to the demonstrations with the Government of Pakistan has been good, and we’re continuing to talk about it, she observed. We’re consulting with a very broad range of countries about the response to this video – not just ones where our embassies and consulates and missions have been affected, but around the world and encouraging leaders – whether they’re government leaders, religious leaders – to speak out strongly along the lines that the Secretary and the President have, that we can all condemn this reprehensible video, but it should never be an excuse for violence, Ms. Nuland argued. She said the terrorists were exploiting the situation. We are seeing, whether it is the recent calls by Hezbollah for people to go out into the streets, some of the things we’ve seen on al-Qaida sites, we’re seeing a lot of piling on. We’re seeing a lot of extremist activity trying to exploit the sentiments from this video to gin up folks to violence and try to use that as an excuse for things that might otherwise have been planned, for their otherwise rejectionist agendas. So that’s very concerning, this sort of spoiler, pile-on agenda that’s happening now, she regretted. The spokesperson also called for calm and the need for peaceful protests. First of all, strengthening security, strengthening of vigilance, sharing information, but also leading publics, speaking out strongly that this must never be an excuse for violence, that outrage, concern, hurt, should be expressed through legitimate, democratic channels, should be expressed peacefully, and it’s never an excuse to take the lives of others, she opined.- Contributed by Awais Saleem, Dunya News correspondent in Washington, DC

Dogs shoot their owners

Another man in Utah is recovering after he was shot in the buttocks by his four legged friend. The 46-year-old American took his canine on a duck hunt in Utah, before his pal accidentally stepped on a shotgun. The man was rushed to hospital but avoided any serious injuries, the Telegraph (UK) reports. It is believed the man was getting out of his boat when the dog shot across the bow.Kevin Potter, the Box Elder County Sheriffs deputy, who wasnt shot, said: (The dog) did something to make the gun discharge.I dont know if the safety device was on. Its not impossible the dog could have taken it off safety. It just boils down to this: dog shoots owner. In the butt.Meanwhile the French hunter, identified only as Rene, told France Bleu radio the dog accidentally pulled the trigger of his shotgun when he jumped on him while they were hunting on Sunday in the Dordogne region.Rene said he was hunting with three dogs when two of them ran off after a deer while the youngest stayed behind. He jumped on top of me for a cuddle and accidentally fired the gun, shooting him in the right hand, Rene said. The hunter was rushed by helicopter to a hospital in Bordeaux but the damage was too serious and the hand had to be amputated. It wasnt the dogs fault, Rene insisted. And hes adorable I should have left the (guns) safety on, thats all.

Gay couple sues B&B owner after being refused a room

Michael Black, 64, and John Morgan, 59, from Cambridgeshire, are seeking damages from Susanne Wilkinson, from Berkshire.Ms Wilkinson, who runs the Swiss Bed and Breakfast in Cookham, said she turned them away because of her religious beliefs, and that it was her human right to do so.Judgement on the case, being heard at Reading County Court, has been reserved for the next one to two weeks. The couple had booked a room at the B&B back in March 2010, but, when they arrived, Ms Wilkinson refused to accommodate them.Lawyers from the human rights organisation Liberty have taken up the case, and, according to the BBC, argue that it was unlawful for a person concerned with the provision of services to the public to discriminate against a person on the grounds of their sexual orientation. The men seek a declaration that they have been discriminated against, and are seeking damages of £1,800 each.Mrs Wilkinson reportedly believes that providing a double bed for a couple would have been promoting a sin, sex outside marriage.Defence lawyers for Mrs Wilkinson argue that a person who is offering bed and breakfast in their own home is entitled to refuse to allow people to stay if they are not married or in a civil partnership. The lawyers added that as the couple are not in a civil partnership, there was no direct or indirect discrimination.According to the Telegraph, James Dingemans QC, for Mrs Wilkinson, told the court: If Mrs Wilkinson had simply said, dont come in because youre gay, that could never be justified. It was simply the provision of the double bed which Mrs Wilkinson believed was wrong.Henrietta Hill, for the couple, said: It is obvious that there is a difficult balancing act to be carried out in this case. The proper balance to be struck has already been determined by the very clear will of Parliament. The case echoes that of Steven Preddy and Martyn Hall who sued B&B owners Peter and Hazelmary Bull after they refused them a double room at Chymorvah House in Marazio, Cornwall.

Women poisons boyfriend for more attention

For years, Thurman Edgar Nesbitt III, 45, had been suffering from unexplained nausea, vomiting, breathing difficulty, and blood pressure fluctuations, according to ABC 27.In July, Nesbitts physician, Dr. Harry Johnston, began to suspect that his patient was being poisoned by tetrahydrozoline, the primary ingredient in over-the-counter eyedrops. When a blood sample tested positive for tetrahydrozoline, Johnston contacted police in Fulton County, and state troopers questioned Nesbitts girlfriend, 33-year-old Vickie Jo Mills.Investigators say that that Mills, of McConnellsburg, admitted to putting Visine eye drops into Nesbitts drinking water between 10 and 12 times since June 2009, the Herald-Mail reports. Mills stated that she never meant to kill Nesbitt, according to court documents, and that she only wanted him to pay more attention to her.She was charged with 10 counts apiece of aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment, Public Opinion Online reports. On Monday, Mills waived her right to a preliminary hearing. Her case will now go straight to county court.

$7 million gold found in dead man's home

Posted:

In late June, neighbors called authorities because of a smell emanating from Samaszko’s home.He was a recluse who had told them he hated the government and feared getting shots, but still, it had been a while since they had seen him, according to the Appeal.According to the coroner, Samaszko, 69, had been dead for at least a month. He died of heart problems, the Las Vegas Sun reported. In came the cleanup crews, which discovered boxes of gold in the garage.“At that point, we took the house apart,” said Carson City clerk-recorder Alan Glover. They found gold coins and bullion, tiny dos-pesos, $20 gold pieces, Austrian ducats, Kruggerrands and English Sovereigns dating to the 1840s – enough gold to fill two wheelbarrows.Samaszko and his mother had lived in the three-bedroom home since the 1970s, which is around the time they started collecting gold.Glover told the Appeal that the two kept detailed records of the gold they had purchased. As for who can lay claim to the riches -- Glover said the Internal Revenue Service will take a sizable amount in taxes -- about $750,000 -- and that the rest will likely go to a first cousin, a substitute teacher in San Rafael, Calif., who is Samaszkos only relative as far as authorities can tell. The Las Vegas Sun reported that Glovers office found her using a list of people who had attended Samaszkos mothers funeral.Samaszkos home is currently for sale for $105,000.
