Gas tariff increased by 6.14pc

ISLAMABAD, Dec 31: The federal government increased the natural gas tariff on Monday by 6.14 per cent for all consumers with immediate effect. The average increase works out at Rs28.28 per unit.

A formal notification about the increase was issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) on the advice of the federal government. This will yield an additional revenue of about Rs11.5 billion to two gas companies — Rs9.5 billion to SNGPL and Rs2 billion to SSGCL...

Fuel supply in Islamabad hit by fog

ISLAMABAD, Dec 31: The ministry of petroleum and natural resources announced on Monday there was no shortage of fuel in the country and only the federal capital was facing some shortage because of transportation problem triggered by heavy fog.

According to a government press release, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf took notice of media reports and asked the Secretary of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources, Dr Waqar Masood Khan, to submit a report on the matter...

LANDI KOTAL, Dec 31: Fourteen people, women and children among them, were killed and four others injured when fighter planes bombed two houses in Tirah valley on Monday, sources said.

Strike observed in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Dec 31: Shops and businesses remained shut in Indian-held Kashmir on Monday in response to a strike called by pro-independence parties in protest against firing by Indian forces in which seven people were injured.

On Friday, Indian troops fired on people in Pulwama town as they carried two men injured in fighting with armed men in a neighboring village. Seven civilians were wounded in the shooting, leading to massive anti-India protests.—AP
