NA likely to be dissolved on March 13-14

ISLAMABAD, Jan 30: Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khurshid Shah said on Wednesday the National Assembly could be dissolved by March 13 or 14.

Talking to journalists at the parliament house, he said the government would try to reach agreement for dissolving the National Assembly and provincial assemblies on the same day. He said the PPP leadership had not yet finalised name of the caretaker prime minister...

Cabinet ratifies Iran pipeline agreement

ISLAMABAD, Jan 30: Despite intense US pressure, the federal cabinet approved on Wednesday a $1.5 billion government-to-government deal with Iran for laying the 785km Pakistan segment of a pipeline to deliver 750 million cubic feet of natural gas per day (MMCFD) of Iranian gas by the end of next year.

The contract will be signed by Iran’s Tadbir Energy and Pakistan Interstate Gas Company (ISGC) for engineering, procurement, construction and financing of the project. Iran will provide a $500 million financing payable in 20 years and Tadbir Energy will lay the pipeline through its sub-contractors...

NAB chief’s letter invites apex court’s wrath

ISLAMABAD, Jan 30: A strongly-worded letter critical of the judiciary written by National Accountability Bureau Chairman Admiral (retd) Fasih Bokhari to President Asif Ali Zardari invited the ire of the Supreme Court on Wednesday.

The court asked the NAB chief to submit an authentic copy of the letter in which he had accused the superior judiciary of influencing the bureau’s investigation into the rental power projects (RPP) scam. ..
