Raids in Hyderabad, Dadu, Moro: Main suspect arrested in Shahzeb case By Qurban Ali Khushik, Abdul Aziz Memon and Tahir Siddiqui THE investigation into the Shahzeb murder case took an important turn on Saturday when police claimed the arrest of Siraj Talpur, the main suspect, along with an unspecified number of other suspects. According to police, Siraj Talpur was taken into custody after raids by a joint police team in Hyderabad, Dadu, Moro and Naushahro Feroze.
Taliban plotting attack on Qadri’s march: Malik By Iftikhar A. Khan ISLAMABAD, Jan 5: Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Saturday that the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was planning to carry out an attack on the proposed march by Tehrik-i-Minhajul Quran’s Dr Tahirul Qadri. Talking to reporters, he said an intercepted telephonic conversation revealed that a conspiracy was afoot to attack the march. “We have finalised arrangements for those coming to Islamabad, including some sick persons,” were the intercepted words, according to Mr Malik.
Two more aid workers killed in KP By Faiz Muhammad CHARSADDA, Jan 5: In an alarming trend of deadly attacks on aid workers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, two more charity workers were gunned down near here on Saturday. According to police, Zakir Hussain, provincial director of the education wing of Al Khidmat Foundation, a charity organisation affiliated with Jamaat-i-Islami, and his driver were shot dead by assailants in Uthmanzai, seven kilometres from here.
Military, politicians at one on democracy: PM By Nabeel Anwar Dhakku CHAKWAL, Jan 5: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf said on Saturday that nobody could derail democracy and that general elections would be held on time. Addressing a big public meeting here, Mr Ashraf said the military and politicians agreed on the need for democracy.
Four die in attack on train By Saleem Shahid QUETTA, Jan 5: Suspected militants attacked a train in Balochistan’s Bolan district on Saturday night, killing four people and injuring 10 others. According to Machh Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Kashif Muhammadshahi, three passengers and a Frontier Corps man were killed when militants opened fire on the Quetta-bound train.
Qadir files petition against degree probe By Nasir Iqbal ISLAMABAD, Jan 5: Abdul Qadir Gilani, son of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and who is facing allegations related to the 2010 Haj scandal, is not out of the woods yet. Now his graduation degree is under the scrutiny of the investigators probing the corruption case. Feeling hurt, Mr Gilani approached the Supreme Court on Saturday, seeking a restraining order against Investigation Officer (IO) Hussain Asghar from probing into the validity of his BA degree.
PPP ready for talks with Taliban, says Kaira By Our Staff Reporter LAHORE, Jan 5: Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Saturday the PPP was ready for talks with everyone, including militants. “The PPP is ready for dialogue with anyone, even the Taliban,” he remarked while answering a question here.
Benazir Bhutto assassination case: Notice not delivered to Siegel, court told By Malik Asad ISLAMABAD, Jan 5: An anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi issued fresh summons to US lobbyist Mark Siegel on Saturday for recording his statement in the Benazir Bhutto assassination case after the prosecution agency informed the ATC that the earlier notice could not be delivered to him within the given time. Judge Chaudhry Habibur Rehman had on Dec 15 asked Mr Siegel, Dr Mussadaq Khan, the then principal of Rawalpindi Medical College, and some police officials to appear before the court.
