Constitutional impasse in Balochistan: JUI-F presents formula to end deadlock

ISLAMABAD, Feb 3: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F, the third largest party in the Balochistan Assembly after the PML-Q and PPP, has offered its unconditional support for the ruling coalition to elect a new chief minister.

Opposition plans march and sit-in today

ISLAMABAD, Feb 3: Members of several opposition parties, led by PML-N leaders, will march from Parliament House to offices of the nearby Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday (today) “to express solidarity with the ECP and demand its empowerment to ensure free and fair general election”.

Losses caused by two RPPs: NAB report termed ‘deliberately flawed’

ISLAMABAD, Feb 3: If NAB investigations are to be believed, two of the five Rental Power Projects (RPPs) caused the national exchequer a loss of only Rs51.78 million. However, some NAB officials and other critics reject the figure as ‘peanuts’.

Conditions set for talks with govt: TTP wants Nawaz, Fazl and Munawar to be guarantors

PESHAWAR, Feb 3: The banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan has expressed its willingness to hold talks with the government, but on two conditions — release of its seven leaders and guarantees by leaders of PML-N, JUI-F and Jamaat-i-Islami to make the exercise fruitful.

“The release of Muslim Khan, Maulvi Omar and five other Taliban leaders is a prerequisite for talks, while former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Syed Munawar Hasan should be the guarantors,” TTP spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan said in a video message released here on Sunday...

JI declines to oblige

ISLAMABAD: While the Jamaat-i-Islami has declined to become one of the guarantors to ensure that any talks between the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan and the government would be ‘fruitful’ as demanded by a TTP spokesman, the Pakistan Muslim League-N and the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F have said it will be “inappropriate” to make a comment at this stage.

“How can we become a guarantor (in the talks) when the government is not ready to implement even the resolutions of parliament,” JI’s Deputy Secretary General Farid Ahmed Piracha said when contacted...

POL products being smuggled from Iran

Iranian vessels empty out POL products into these boats and the entire process of loading and unloading takes place within the territorial waters of Pakistan near its coastline...

Bomb defused

QUETTA, Feb 3: A major disaster was averted on Sunday when an improvised bomb rigged to a bicycle was defused here on Sariab road, sources said.

A Frontier Corps contingent patrolling the area spotted the bicycle parked in front of a hotel and informed the police.
