KhanISLAMBAD, Feb 4: The plan for a sit-in by opposition parties led by the PML-N was all but washed out by heavy downpour here on Monday, although hundreds of people managed to gather outside the Election Commission of Pakistan to demonstrate their support for the commission and present a charter of demands for ensuring free and fair elections in the country. Mohammad Ali Shah passes wayBy Our Staff ReporterKARACHI, Feb 4: Dr Syed Mohammad Ali Shah, a renowned orthopedic surgeon and adviser to the Sindh chief minister for sports, died in Houston, USA, on Monday after a protracted illness. Compensation approved for blast victimsBy Our Staff CorrespondentQUETTA, Feb 4: Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi has approved compensation to be paid to the heirs of those who died in bomb blasts and owners of properties destroyed in such incidents in Quetta and Kharan in 2011 and 2012. Official sources said that Rs127 million would be paid in compensation to the people whose relatives were killed or injured or whose houses and shops were destroyed in acts of terrorism. According to a break-down, Rs82m will be paid to the families of 82 victims of Quetta’s Alamdar Road and Meezan Chowk explosions and Rs39.4m to the families of 197 injured. | ||||||||||||||
