NP to initiate dialogue for resolving Balochistan issue By Saleem Shahid QUETTA, Sept 8: The National Party (NP) has decided to initiate dialogue with all stakeholders for resolving the Balochistan issue and take political parties into confidence for creating an atmosphere conducive to the process. A two-day meeting of the party’s central committee which concluded on Sunday evening reviewed the situation in the province and the performance of the provincial government.
Guard of honour at Presidency By Syed Irfan Raza ISLAMABAD, Sept 8: The first elected president in the country’s history to complete his five-year term, Asif Ali Zardari vacated the presidency on Sunday with full official protocol. President-elect Mamnoon Hussain, who belongs to the ruling PML-N, will take oath of office on Monday and Mr Zardari will also attend the ceremony.
Zardari offers support to Nawaz, taunts ‘bullet lovers’ By Our Staff Reporter LAHORE, Sept 8: Warmly welcomed by PPP workers at his arrival at the Bilawal House here after vacating the Presidency, former president Asif Ali Zardari hinted at making Lahore the citadel of his party and pledged that he would not allow anyone to weaken (prime minister) Nawaz Sharif. “…We want to tell the forces interested in the politics of bullet, instead of ballot, that we haven’t lost the war. There’ll be elections after five years and then again after another five years,” he said while addressing PPP workers assembled at his Lahore residence.
Mamnoon Hussain takes oath today By Our Staff Reporter ISLAMABAD: President-elect Mamnoon Hussain will take oath of office on Monday as the 12th head of state. The oath will be administered by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry at a ceremony to be held at the Presidency. It will be a rare event as former president Asif Ali Zardari, who stayed in the Presidency for five years till Sunday, will also attend the ceremony along with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, members of the federal cabinet and heads of parliamentary parties.
Troops deployed after 19 killed in Indian riots LUCKNOW, Sept 8: Hundreds of troops have been deployed to quell deadly riots and clashes between Hindus and Muslims sparked by the killing of three villagers who had objected when a young woman was being harassed in northern India. Police said 19 people were killed, including a broadcast journalist, a police photographer and several people who on Sunday succumbed to injuries received a day earlier when the two groups set upon each other with guns and knives at Kawal village in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
