SC issues contempt notice to defence secretaryBy Nasir IqbalISLAMABAD, Oct 11: Defence Secretary retired Lt Gen Asif Yasin Malik has landed himself in trouble by attracting a contempt of court notice for not honouring his undertaking of holding the local government elections in all 43 cantonment boards. “Prima facie the undertaking and the commitment earlier made has been disobeyed as a result whereof civil contempt within the definition of section 2 clause-a (ii) of the Contempt of Court Ordinance, 2003, read with Article 204 (3) of the constitution has been committed. Therefore, notice of contempt of court be issued to Asif Yasin Malik, the incumbent secretary defence, to proceed against him according to the procedure,” an order dictated by a three-judge Supreme Court bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, said on Friday. | ||||||||||||||
Pak Taliban ‘commander’ captured in AfghanistanKABUL, Oct 11: US troops are holding a senior Tehreek-i- Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ‘commander’ they captured in Afghanistan a week ago, an Afghan official said on Friday. The capture could be a significant blow to the Pakistani Taliban, who have waged a decade-long insurgency against Islamabad from sanctuaries along the Afghan border. Boy dies in Indian shelling along LoCBy Tariq NaqashMUZAFFARABAD, Oct 11: A boy was killed and at least four others, including two women, were injured in Azad Jammu and Kashmir in unprovoked shelling from across the Line of Control (LoC) on Friday, officials said. A Pakistan Army officer told Dawn that Indian troops shelled villages in Nakial and Tatta Pani sectors in Kotli district. “They started shelling at about 11am without any provocation but their guns fell silent in the afternoon after we responded to them befittingly,” he added. | ||||||||||||||

Suicide attack near Wana kills two soldiersBy Our CorrespondentWANA, Oct 11: Two soldiers were killed and another two injured when a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden vehicle into a military truck near Wana in South Waziristan Agency on Friday. An official in the political administration said that a military convoy was going from Tank to Wana when the suicide bomber’s vehicle coming from opposite direction hit one of the trucks. | ||||||||||||||
