Six killed as bomb blast hits trainBy Saleem ShahidQUETTA, Oct 21: At least six people, including a woman and a child, were killed and 15 others injured when a passenger train derailed after being hit by a bomb blast at railway track near Nuttal railway station in Nasirabad district, some 230km from here, on Monday. Five compartments of the Quetta-bound Jaffar Express, coming from Rawalpindi, bore the brunt of the explosion and derailed. Train service to and from Quetta was suspended and different trains were stopped at Quetta and Jacobabad railway stations because the track was damaged by the blast. | ||||||||||||||

Indian army chief leaves meeting to brief minister on LoCNEW DELHI, Oct 21: Indian Army Chief Gen Bikram Singh was on Monday suddenly called by Defence Minister A.K. Antony to brief him about the ceasefire violations allegedly by Pakistan on the Line of Control in Kashmir, days after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh voiced concern over the handling of Keran operations in the disputed territory. Gen Singh, who was chairing a meeting attended by senior commanders, left the conference following a communication from Mr Antony’s office. | ||||||||||||||
Pakistan emerging place to invest in, says SharifDawn ReportWASHINGTON, Oct 21: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif told a gathering of US investors on Monday that Pakistan was ready to privatise Pakistan Steel, PIA and a number of other industries. Railways minister wants scams reinvestigatedBy Syed Irfan RazaISLAMABAD, Oct 21: Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has requested the National Accountability Bureau to reinvestigate scams related to Pakistan Railways, including a shady deal struck during the days of retired Gen Pervez Musharraf in 2001 for setting up the Royal Palm Golf and Country Club on 141 acres of PR land in Lahore.He said he had written a letter to the NAB headquarters and urged NAB chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry to reinvestigate major scams in Pakistan Railways. The alleged corruption in PR referred to the NAB include the sale of scrap worth millions of rupees at throwaway prices, purchase of different items for 69 locomotives and allotment of railways land for establishment of Royal Palm Country Club. | ||||||||||||||
SC urged to make govt name treason inquiry chiefBy Our Staff ReporterISLAMABAD, Oct 21: A petitioner requested the Supreme Court on Monday to immediately order the government to appoint the head of a four-member investigating committee set up to prosecute former president retired Gen Pervez Musharraf under treason charges. A petition filed by Advocate Muhammad Ikram Chaudhry on behalf of Abdul Hakeem Khan Kundi argued that since Interior Secretary Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, the head of the committee, had been appointed the chairman of the National Accountability Bureau it was necessary to order the government to appoint a new head to conclude the investigation.Mr Kundi is one of the petitioners who had approached the Supreme Court to press for high treason charge against Gen Musharraf. | ||||||||||||||
