Balochistan CM determined to meet challenges

KARACHI, Oct 27: Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch said here on Sunday that a provincial all-party conference planned for December would focus on dialogue with Baloch militants, the issues of missing persons and the dumping of bullet-riddled bodies.

Five killed by mystery bombs at Modi rally in Patna

NEW DELHI, Oct 27: Five people were killed and 66 injured by a string of crude bomb blasts near and around the venue of a political rally addressed in Patna by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, and officials said it was not clear if the explosions had been triggered by terrorists or were part of a “political conspiracy”.

Mr Modi, who addressed the rally a few minutes after the attacks, refrained from blaming his bête noire, the Muslims, whose vote he is now wooing with the support of a clutch of Muslim clerics. In Fact, he exhorted poor Muslims and poor Hindus to jointly fight poverty.

‘Long march’ for the missing

QUETTA, Oct 27: About 20 people, including women and children, set off for Karachi on Sunday under the banner of the Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) to highlight the issue of missing persons.

Participants of the ‘long march’ — led by VBMP Vice-Chairman Qadeer Baloch and carrying placards and photographs of missing persons — began their journey at the local press club. The march will culminate in a sit-in outside the Karachi Press Club.

Soldier dies in N. Waziristan explosion

MIRAMSHAH, Oct 27: One soldier was killed and three others were injured in a roadside bomb blast at Chashma Pul area in North Waziristan tribal region on Sunday, officials said.

A military convoy on way to Bannu district from Miramshah was hit by the remote-controlled bomb when it reached Chashma Pul at about 10am. One soldier was killed and three others suffered injuries, the officials said.

Top NAB official sent back to NBP

ISLAMABAD, Oct 27: In a major reshuffle in the National Accountability Bureau, the director general of its Financial Crimes Investigation Wing, Kausar Iqbal Malik, has been sent back to his former department.

The decision was taken by newly appointed NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry who, according to sources, is making his own team. They said some more changes in the NAB hierarchy were expected over the next few days. Mr Malik, a senior executive vice-president of the National Bank, has held different posts in NAB over the last nine years.

Sharif agreed to review Afridi case: report

WASHINGTON, Oct 27: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has assured US lawmakers that he will reconsider the case of a jailed Pakistani doctor who helped the CIA track Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, a US news channel reported on Sunday.

The Fox News reported that Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs Representative Ed Royce together with Robert Lorsch of the Free Afridi Campaign “heavily pressured” the Pakistani leadership about releasing the doctor and allowing him a life in the US, it said.

Man dies in Karachi targeted attack

KARACHI, Oct 27: A man was gunned down in Kharadar area of Karachi on Sunday in what was described by the police as a targeted attack.

Fahad Aziz, 35, was standing in Thokar Gali near Napier Road when two men on a motorcycle opened fire on him. Aziz sustained five bullet wounds and was taken to the Civil Hospital where he died during treatment.

Kashmiris reject Indian occupation

MUZAFFARABAD, Oct 27: Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and in different countries observed a ‘black day’ on Sunday to reject the illegal Indian occupation of the Himalayan region and denial of right to self-determination to its people.

According to APP, a complete shutdown was observed in occupied Kashmir on a call given by the All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) and supported by other pro-freedom organisations and the High Court Bar Association.

Zardari calls PPP meeting in Lahore

Mr Zardari, who is in Dubai nowadays, is likely to return to the country in a day or two.

Judiciary tops agenda of Senate session

ISLAMABAD, Oct 27: After a break of almost two months, the Senate is starting its session on Monday to discuss, among other issues, a motion on the process of judges’ appointment and a resolution asking the government to publish names of judges having dual nationality.

Both the motion and the resolution have been moved by Senator Farhatullah Babar of Peoples Party.
