Regional security discussed with China By Our Staff Reporter ISLAMABAD, Oct 28: Chief of the Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani discussed on Monday security situation in the region with senior military officials of China. Army’s media affairs wing ISPR said in a statement that Gen Kayani’s four-day trip to Beijing was for discussions on Pak-China defence and security cooperation.
PML-N lawmaker disqualified for life By Nasir Iqbal ISLAMABAD, Oct 28: Ms Sumaira Malik, a PML-N lawmaker who headed the Ministry of Women Development and Youth Affairs in the cabinet of former prime minister Shaukat Aziz’s, was de-seated by the Supreme Court on Monday for possessing fake degree. She was disqualified from becoming a member of parliament and its consequence entails her permanent ineligibility since the court slapped a life ban on her to contest future elections.
Soldier, three others die in attack, shelling By Our Correspondent MIRAMSHAH, Oct 28: A soldier was killed in a militant attack on a post and three civilians lost their lives when security personnel shelled villages after the militant assault early on Monday morning. According to sources, miscreants opened fire on the Amin post in Miramshah late on Sunday night, killing one solider and injuring three others. The injured personnel were airlifted to the Bannu Combined Military Hospital in critical condition.
Only court will decide Dr Afridi’s case, says Sharif LONDON, Oct 28: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said here on Monday that the issue of Dr Shakeel Afridi was subjudice and subject to court’s ruling. Talking to journalists after his arrival here to attend the ninth meeting of the World Islamic Forum, the prime minister said his government would not take any extrajudicial step over the issue of Dr Afridi.
Hoti accuses Asfandyar of being in secret deal with US Bureau Report PESHAWAR, Oct 28: Senator Azam Hoti, a former senior leader of the Awami National Party (ANP), has accused Asfandyar Wali Khan and Afrasiyab Khattak of having entered into a secret deal with the US after accepting around $35 million at the cost of the lives of party workers and the soil of Pakhtuns. Addressing a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Monday, he said the deal had been made in 2008 when the two ANP leaders visited the US. The trip, according to him, was planned by former MNA Haji Naseem-ur-Rehman of Mardan.
Appointment of judges: PPP slams judiciary By Amir Wasim ISLAMABAD, Oct 28: Senators belonging to the PPP called for reviewing the process of judges’ appointment as the Senate witnessed walkouts on the issues of law and order situation in Balochistan and the proposed privatisation of the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) on the opening day of its winter session on Monday. The token walkout on law and order situation in Balochistan was led by Senator Zahid Khan of the Awami National Party (ANP) and PPP stalwart Raza Rabbani led the walkout on PSM privatisation.

After the government’s decision to speed up its efforts for talks with the Taliban, analysts consider Maulana Fazl’s interactions with the American and Saudi envoys, after his meeting with the prime minister, as an important development.
Trial of corruption cases against Zardari begins today By Syed Irfan Raza ISLAMABAD, Oct 28: After a long interval of five years, former president Asif Ali Zardari will face six corruption cases in an accountability court on Tuesday (today). The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has vowed to ‘vigorously’ pursue the cases and the main opposition PPP has decided to vehemently defend Mr Zardari.
