Musharraf’s treason trial may begin next week By Malik Asad ISLAMABAD, Nov 30: The trial of former president retired General Pervez Musharraf for high treason under Article 6 of the constitution is likely to commence next week as the registrar of the special court set up for the purpose has been appointed. Law and Justice Secretary Barrister Zafarullah Khan told Dawn that district and sessions judge of the Sindh Judicial Service, Abdul Ghani Soomro, would assist the special court as its registrar.
KP cabinet to protest outside parliament By Amir Wasim ISLAMABAD, Nov 30: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and all members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet will hold a demonstration outside the Parliament House on Dec 5 against US drone attacks and the federal government’s ‘failure’ to raise the issue at international forums. According to the head of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s media cell, Chaudhry Rizwan, the decision to hold a ‘unique protest’ by a provincial government against the federal government was taken at a meeting of the party’s core committee on Saturday. It was presided over by PTI chairman Imran Khan.
Ambush in Mohmand kills three security men By Our Correspondent GHALANAI, Nov 30: Three security personnel were killed and two others injured when miscreants attacked them near a post in Mohmand tribal region along the border with Afghanistan on Saturday. Sources said five personnel of Swat Scouts had gone to a nearby spring to fetch water and were returning to the Yara Khel security post in Biazai tehsil when they came under fire at around 3pm.

Policeman killed in attack on polio team By Ali Hazrat Bacha PESHAWAR, Nov 30: Suspected militants fired on policemen protecting a team of polio workers in a suburb of the city on Saturday, killing one and wounding another. The attack took place when the vaccinators were returning after administering anti-polio drops in Qamar Din Ghari area, police spokesman Mohammad Alam Khan said.
Justice Nasir takes oath as acting CEC By Our Staff Reporter LAHORE, Nov 30: Justice Nasirul Mulk, a senior judge of the Supreme Court, took oath on Saturday as acting Chief Election Commissioner. Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry administered the oath to Justice Mulk at a ceremony held at the Supreme Court’s Lahore registry.
Obama retains oil sanctions against Iran, dashes Pakistan’s hopes By Anwar Iqbal WASHINGTON, Nov 30: President Barack Obama has decided to retain US sanctions on petroleum and petroleum products from Iran, dashing hopes that a recent nuclear deal would make it easier for Pakistan to buy Iranian gas. “There is a sufficient supply of petroleum and petroleum products from countries other than Iran to permit a significant reduction in the volume of petroleum and petroleum products purchased from Iran by or through foreign financial institutions,” Mr Obama said in a statement issued by his office.
