NY train derails; four killed, 63 injuredNEW YORK, Dec 1: A suburban New York train derailed on Sunday, killing at least four people and injuring 63, including 11 critically, when all seven cars of a Metro-North train ran off the tracks on a curved section of the line, officials said. MQM confirms Mustafa Kamal was asked to quit SenateBy Azfar-ul-AshfaqueKARACHI, Dec 1: The unexplained absence of Syed Mustafa Kamal from the country and the MQM headquarters in Karachi has prompted his party to ask him to quit his Senate seat, it emerged here on Sunday. The former Karachi nazim, who got elected to the upper house of parliament in 2011, left the country in mid-August this year. His whereabouts have since been unknown and he remained in touch with some senior MQM leaders through internet/email. It is learnt that he did not call even Altaf Hussain over the last three months. | ||||||
Controversy over Irsa membership deepensBy Khaleeq KianiISLAMABAD, Dec 1: The positions of members of the Indus River System Authority (Irsa) have become a contentious issue between the federal and provincial governments and may land in court for adjudication over the next couple of days. The ministry of water and power has asked the four provinces and Wapda to recommend one candidate each so that one of them could be nominated and sent to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for appointment as member (federal) of Irsa — a five-member constitutional forum for regulation and sharing of water among the provinces. | ||||||
