Govt hesitant to pledge funds for PSM

Blast in religious centre kills 10

PESHAWAR: At least 10 people were killed and over 60 injured when a bomb exploded in a Tableeghi Markaz in the suburbs of Peshawar on Thursday evening.

According to Peshawar SSP (operations) Najeeb-ur-Rehman, the blast took place when people were offering Maghrib prayers.

Karachi operation to continue: Sharif

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif declared on Thursday that operation launched in Karachi by law enforcement agencies would continue because the government was fully committed to restoring peace in the restive city.

Expressing satisfaction over the ongoing operation against criminal elements and outlaws in Karachi, he said efforts to bring normality to the city would continue.

Medical board ordered for Musharraf

ISLAMABAD: The special court set up for treason trial of retired Gen Pervez Musharraf ordered the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) on Thursday to constitute a medical board to assess the condition of the former president and to submit a report by Jan 24.

The former military ruler was rushed to the AFIC when he complained of heart problems while going to the special court on Jan 2.

Two pilots die as PAF plane crashes

ISLAMABAD: The pilot and co-pilot were killed when a Pakistan Air Force Mirage aircraft crashed in Qadirabad, Mandi Bahauddin, on Thursday, a PAF spokesman said.

According to eyewitnesses, the pilots died while avoiding the fall of the aircraft in a populated area. No loss of civilian life or property was reported in the area where the plane wreckage fell.

Salman Butt picked as new AG

ISLAMABAD: Salman Aslam Butt, who is the fifth attorney general to have been appointed since March 2008 and the second to serve during the PML-N government, will assume his office on Friday.

The Lahore-based lawyer was appointed as the top judicial officer of the government on Thursday in place of Muneer A. Malik who resigned earlier this month.
