Medical report may not be presented in court today

RAWALPINDI: The report on health condition of former president retired Gen Pervez Musharraf may not be presented to the special court on Tuesday because the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) is reported to have sought help of specialists from the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Jhelum to finalise the report.

Court demands Musharraf’s medical report

ISLAMABAD: The special court constituted for treason trial of former president retired General Pervez Musharraf has directed the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) to produce on Tuesday (today) a medical certificate on his health condition. The court gave the order after Mr Musharraf did not attend Monday’s hearing.

The former military ruler was rushed to the army-run AFIC on Jan 2 after he complained of heart problems on way to the special court.

Accidental explosion kills nine in Tirah

LANDI KOTAL, Jan 6: Nine people, three children among them, were killed when a live artillery shell exploded in a house in Miangano Kalay village in Tirah Valley on Monday.

Some villagers had found the shell in the field and taken it to the house. According to neighbours, they were trying to split it with a saw when it exploded. The explosion also injured 10 villagers who had gathered at the place.

IP pipeline still affected by sanction, Senate panel told

ISLAMABAD: The Senate standing committee on petroleum has been informed that the recent relaxation of sanctions by the United States and the European Union against Iran has not offered any benefit to Pakistan in case of its gas imports from Tehran.

The ministry of petroleum and natural resources has told the committee that the ministry of foreign affairs had reviewed the entire situation following the Iran-P5 nuclear deal from legal and diplomatic standpoints.

Saudi FM arrives on two-day visit

A long wait for quake victims

Walking around in Mashkay’s Gajjar Town, it seems like the earthquake struck just a day ago. The debris remains as it is, with no signs of reconstruction, and is surrounded by tattered clothes, broken suitcases and toys.

Those who could afford to leave the area did so, with one family member staying back to help with reconstruction. But most who stayed behind are still awaiting help. With an exodus from Mashkay to Vinder, Hub and Karachi in recent weeks, the majority of those left behind are the poorest of the poor, trying to make ends meet in whichever way possible.

Pak-India liver transplant programme in trouble

LAHORE: A cross-border effort rekindling hope among liver patients in Pakistan has run against a hurdle after Indian surgeons refused to continue with their surgery schedule in Lahore until drastic improvements in post-operation care to minimise the possibility of infection.

A team of Indian surgeons has been collaborating with their Pakistani counterparts in liver transplantation for five months from the summer of 2013.

PIA to send back profitable ‘wet lease’ aircraft

LAHORE: Despite its ‘successful and profitable’ experience of acquiring four aircraft on ‘wet lease’, the PIA management has decided not to retain them after April, under pressure from within the company.

Now it will acquire another five on ‘dry lease’ once the wet lease expires.

Would-be suicide bomber held

KANDAHAR: Afghan authorities said on Monday they had detained a 10-year-old girl for attempting to carry out a suicide attack wearing a vest packed with explosives.

The girl, named as Spozhmai, appeared at press conference in Lashkar Gah, capital of the southern province of Helmand, where she told reporters how her brother had forced her to wear the vest and ordered her to detonate herself at a police checkpoint.
