Blasts hit Punjab gas supplies

IMF says GDP growth better than expected

WASHINGTON/ISLAMABAD: Noting that Pakistan’s economy is showing signs of improvement, the International Monetary Fund has reported a “better-than-expected” GDP growth in the country.

The IMF also pointed in a report issued on Sunday that Pakistan had met nearly all of its quantitative performance markers and its reform programme remained broadly on track.

Altaf seeks help from army, ISI

KARACHI / ISLAMABAD: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain appealed to the army top brass on Sunday to take notice of what he called “state oppression” against workers of his party and innocent people and act to preserve national solidarity and integrity.

Addressing a press conference from London by phone, he said he was justified in directly addressing the chief of the army staff and the director general of Inter-Services Intelligence because the treatment being meted out to Mohajirs by the democratic government was worse than what they had suffered at the hands of a dictatorial regime.

TTP ‘demands release of prisoners, troop withdrawal’

MIRAMSHAH: Three negotiators returned to the headquarters of North Waziristan on Sunday evening after holding consultations with a shura of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on their negotiations with the government.

According to sources, Prof Muhammad Ibrahim, Maulana Yousaf Shah and Maulana Haseeb, who had arrived here from Peshawar on Saturday by a helicopter, held consultations with members of the TTP’s political shura at an undisclosed place in Shawal area of South Waziristan.

Eight of a family, 6 attackers killed in Dera Bugti

QUETTA: Eight members of a family, six of them women and children, were gunned down in an attack on the house of a peace force commander in tehsil Sui of Dera Bugti district on Sunday. Six of the attackers were killed in subsequent clashes with volunteers of the peace force and security forces.

According to officials, gunmen attacked the house of Ghazi Khan Marhata Bugti in Dodatba village in the early morning and started firing with automatic weapons, killing the eight people on the spot.

Faith-healer’s place attacked; eight killed

KARACHI: Eight people, including a minor girl, were killed and 17 injured when gunmen attacked the ‘astana’, the place where a ‘Pir’ and faith-healer granted audience to people, in Baldia-12 area of the city on Sunday.

Police said the victims were at the ‘astana’ of ‘Jalali Baba’ when six to eight people on three motorcycles came and first hurled a grenade-like device and then opened fire.
