Military backs peace initiative, says PMANKARA: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday expressed satisfaction over the progress in negotiations between the government committee and the Taliban. The prime minister told reporters in Ankara that the armed forces had extended support for the peace initiative. Missing person: police report points finger at ISIBy Nasir IqbalISLAMABAD: Punjab police investigating the whereabouts of Khawar Mehmood have pointed finger at the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) for the enforced disappearance. Anti-Taliban activist killed with 7 relatives, guestBy Ali Hazrat BachaPESHAWAR: Militants killed eight members of the family of an anti-Taliban volunteer when they attacked his house in the nearby Mashokhel village with light and heavy weapons on Wednesday. A guest of the family also lost his life. The Mashokhel Qaumi Lashkar’s chief Pir Israr Shah, his son Sadaqat Shah, brothers Mohammad Haji and Saeed Wali, nephews Yasir Shah, Sabir Shah, Akhtar Ali and Sadam died in the attack. The guest was identified as Rehmat.This was the ninth militant attack in Peshawar and its suburbs this month. | ||||||||||||||
Senate calls for protecting rights of women, minorities in talksBy Amir WasimISLAMABAD: The Senate unanimously adopted on Wednesday a resolution calling upon the government to make no “compromise” on the rights of women and minorities during its talks with Taliban. The lawmakers from all sides also criticised PTI chief Imran Khan for his controversial statement questioning the army’s capability to carry out an operation against militants. The resolution moved by Senator Nasreen Jalil of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) also urged the government to constitute a commission to monitor jirgas being used against women having an access to civil society organisations working for the cause of women rights. | ||||||||||||||
Ministry told to trace applicant seeking FIR against CIA officialBy Malik AsadISLAMABAD: Justice Shahzad Ahmed Khan of the Lahore High Court directed the ministry of interior on Wednesday to trace Karim Khan who went missing on Feb 5 from Rawalpindi just days before he was due to testify before the European Parliament against US drone attacks. A native of North Waziristan, Mr Khan was seeking to register an FIR against CIA station chief Jonathan Banks for allegedly killing his teenage son and a brother in a 2009 drone strike. | ||||||||||||||
