Saudi Crown Prince gets red carpet welcome

By Baqir Sajjad Syed

ISLAMABAD: The government on Saturday rolled out the red carpet for Saudi Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud, who arrived here on a three-day visit.

Prince Salman, who also holds the portfolios of deputy prime minister and defence minister, was received at the Nur Khan Airbase by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif — a protocol reserved for heads of state and government having special relationship with Pakistan.

PM vague about Imran’s claim

By Amir Wasim

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s vague reply to a question about PTI chief Imran Khan’s claim regarding dim prospects of the armed forces’ success in an operation against militants has compounded the confusion surrounding the debate over use of force in Waziristan.

Mr Khan had said in a TV interview last week that he was told by the prime minister there were “40 per cent chances of success” of a military operation against terrorists.

Musharraf not alone in avoiding court hearings

By Malik Asad

ISLAMABAD: Retired General Pervez Musharraf is not the only individual avoiding appearance in the court. There are other high-profile personalities as well, including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and former president Asif Ali Zardari, who have remained absent from court proceedings a number of times.

Sources privy to the Ogra corruption reference claimed that former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, who has been summoned by an accountability court on Feb 18, intends to seek exemption after putting in a one-time appearance.

By Zulqernain Tahir

LAHORE: “My Facebook account has been hacked. The hacker has posted objectionable material on it causing a lot of stress to me, my family members and friends,” says a complainant, a woman.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has no remedy to redress the complaint in the absence of a law to check cyber crime, including fake and stolen identities on Facebook, Twitter and other social media links. The complainant is asked to go to either the ministry of information and technology or the police.

Silence of the grave

By Saher Baloch

KHUZDAR: Tutak is an area of harsh contrasts. This observation is borne out by the beautiful landscape that surrounds Tutak — and the open graves scattered across it.

A 55-kilometre drive out of Khuzdar, the area is surrounded by rugged mountains, apart from a few houses and lanes at the beginning. But as one moves forward, the mud houses are left behind and Tutak comes into view. It is a desolate area. There is not a single person or animal around.
