ISLAMABAD: Will the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) announce an unconditional ceasefire to let peace talks move ahead was the question discussed at length during a meeting the prime minister held on Sunday with chief coordinator of the government’s negotiating team Irfan Siddiqui and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

Mohmand Taliban claim killing 23 FC men

PESHAWAR: In a chilling admission on Sunday night, a militant outfit identifying itself as Mohmand Agency Taliban claimed to have killed 23 FC soldiers they had kidnapped from Shongari checkpost in the tribal region in 2010.

In a letter posted on the social media, Mohmand Agency Taliban chief Umar Khalid Khurasani said the FC soldiers had been slain to avenge what he called the custodial killing of their `fighters’ in various parts of Pakistan.

Security, regional issues discussed

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia will sign on Monday a number of agreements crafted to emphasise their reinforced relationship and its significance for the regional security environment.

Saudi Crown Prince Salman bin Abdul Aziz, who is on a three-day visit to Pakistan on the first leg of his four-nation Asia tour, will meet Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Chairman Gen Rashad Mehmood and army chief Gen Raheel Sharif before witnessing the signing of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) for cooperation in areas ranging from trade and investment to defence and security.

Powerful train blast leaves 6 dead, 30 injured

LARKANA: A powerful bomb on a railway track in Jacobabad district derailed three bogies of a train, leaving six passengers dead and 30 injured on Sunday.

The blast took place when the Peshawar-bound Khushhal Khan Khattak Express was passing through the abandoned Mir Hassan railway station near Unnarwah area in Thull.

Policeman slain, 2 injured on day of vaccination

PESHAWAR: A constable of the Frontier Reserve Police (FRP) deployed for a vaccination campaign, ‘Sehat ka insaf’, was killed and another injured in a bomb attack on Charsadda Road on Sunday. Another policeman was injured in an attack in Charkhakhel.

According to Khazana police, the explosion took place after a police van had dropped two policemen at a place in Peshawar.
