Govt decides to resume talks with TTPBy Syed Irfan RazaISLAMABAD: The government decided on Tuesday to resume peace dialogue with the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan which was suspended last month after the TTP Mohmand claimed to have killed 23 detained Frontier Corps personnel. The decision was taken at a meeting of the four-member government negotiating team, headed by Irfan Siddqui, with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs and National Security, Sartaj Aziz, gave an overview of the government’s foreign policy goals at the end of a debate on an opposition lawmaker’s motion, rejecting allegations of compromising national interests, particularly in dealing with the pipeline project finalised with the sanctions-hit Iran by the previous PPP-led government in its last days, relations with the United States and India and an alleged pro-rebel shift in policy over the Syrian crisis. | ||||||||||||||
42 threat alerts given, SC informedBy Nasir IqbalISLAMABAD: Interior Secretary Shahid Khan on Tuesday startled the Supreme Court hearing Monday’s terror attack on the Islamabad district courts on a suo motu that 42 threat alerts and 22 information reports about a possible act of terrorism had been communicated to the local administration, including the Islamabad police, from Jan 1 to date. “The ministry of interior conveyed 42 threat alerts and 22 information reports to the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad and Inspector General of Police from Jan 1 to date,” said a report submitted by the interior secretary in reply to the suo motu taken by Supreme Court Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani on the Islamabad attack, which left an additional sessions judge and 10 others dead and dozens injured. | ||||||||||||||
